The Todd Beamer Titans secured the South Puget Sound League South Division championship with a huge exclamation point Tuesday night at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
The Titans (13-0-3) secured first place in the division with a 15-0 pasting of the Spanaway Lake Sentinels in their final regular season game of the year. The victory put Beamer six points clear of second-place Emerald Ridge, who still have one match remaining.
Up next for the eighth-ranked Titans is a spot in the SPSL Championship game against the winners of the SPSL North Division, the Kentwood Conquerors. The two powerhouse programs will get together at 8 p.m. at Federal Way Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, May 11. The winner will be the SPSL’s top seed into the West Central/Southwest District Tournament on May 14. The loser will earn the second seed.
Kentwood, like Beamer, hasn’t suffered a loss during the SPSL North regular season, including a pair of wins over second-place Jefferson. The Conquerors (12-0-3) feature an impressive defense that hasn’t allowed a goal since April 19 and had only 10 scored against them all season.
But Kentwood hasn’t played an offense as talented as Beamer’s. The Titans have scored an astounding 92 goals during their run through the SPSL South, while allowing only 10.
Beamer is led by five players who are a part of the prestigious Seattle Sounders FC Academy program — seniors Ugo Okoli, Troy Peterson and Brandon Brockway, along with sophomores Ike Crook and Austin Sweeney.
The three seniors have already inked national letters of intent to play soccer at Division I colleges in the fall. Okoli will attend Wake Forest University, Peterson will play at the College of Charleston and Brockway will head down Interstate 5 to become a Beaver at Oregon State. Brockway transferred to Beamer this year after playing at Stadium High School.
Okoli, who is also a member of the Under-18 United States Men’s National Team, leads the Titans in scoring this year with 19 goals and 14 assists. Peterson has 16 goals and 15 assists and Crook has chipped in 12 goals and 10 assists.
During their regular-season finale Tuesday against Spanaway Lake, Brockway had another solid game. The defender finished with three goals and dished out four assists during the 15-goal win.
Freshman Udenze Okoli had a hat trick and an assist and Crook finished with two goals and an assist. Peterson scored a goal and had three assists and Sweeney finished with a pair of goals.
Beamer’s other scores came from Holden Wade, Jake Gregg, Ugo Okoli and Dan Tran. Nick Bod, Deshar House and Patrick Bigelow combined on the shutout in goal.

Jefferson 2, Tahoma 0
The Raiders (11-2-2) secured second place in the SPSL South Tuesday night by shutting out the Tahoma Bears at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
Jefferson will take on Emerald Ridge, the second-place team from the SPSL South, at 8 p.m. at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup on Wednesday, May 11. The winner will be the SPSL’s third seed to districts, while the loser will be the fourth.
Tuesday against Tahoma, the Raiders got on the scoreboard in the 35th minute on a goal from Jimmy Oganga on a pass from Isidro Prado-Huerta. The score remained 1-0 until Omar Abdi took an Oganga pass and put it in the back of the net in the 62nd minute to put the game out of reach.
McKay Owsley finished with the shutout in goal for the Raiders.
Federal Way 4, Rogers 2
The Eagles (7-5-3) will also be playing at the SPSL Tournament, thanks to the victory over the Rogers Rams Tuesday.
It’s still up in the air whether Federal Way will be the fourth or fifth seed from the SPSL South. The Eagles have one game remaining Friday against third-place Puyallup. Rogers currently sits in fourth place, one point ahead of the Eagles. The Rams can secure fourth with a win Friday over Graham-Kapowsin Friday.
Against Rogers Tuesday, Federal Way overcame a 2-1 halftime deficit to score the final three goals of the game. Christian Ramirez, Daulton Guevara and Odason Pelogi scored all three second-half during a 10-minute stretch. Guevara also tallied the Eagles’ first goal of the game in the 19th minute.
