BASEBALL WRAP: Federal Way finished second in the SPSL South

The Federal Way Eagles baseball team secured second place in the South Puget Sound League South Division with a pair of wins Friday and Saturday.

Federal Way (13-3 SPSL South, ) beat Curtis, 8-4, Friday and downed Emerald Ridge Saturday, 9-4. Puyallup won the league with a 14-2 record.

Washington State University-bound shortstop Nick Tanielu had two huge games at the plate for Federal Way. The senior belted two home runs against Curtis, finishing 4 for 4 with four RBIs and was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and another home run in the win over Emerald Ridge.

Darien Moran allowed only three hits in six innings of work on the mound against Emerald Ridge. Moran struck out eight to get the win. Evan Elliot was 3 for 4 with three runs, two RBIs and a home run.

Austin Weber got the win on the mound against Curtis, who finished with only five hits.

Decatur

The Gators slipped by the Lakes Lancers Friday, 9-7. Decatur (6-6 SPSL 3A, 6-9 overall) got three RBIs and a home run from Christian Meister and Derek Bontempo ended up 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs. Romiro Ponce got the victory on the mound for Decatur.

Beamer

The Titans (8-8 SPSL South, 11-8 overall) ended their season with a 9-2 win over Graham-Kapowsin Saturday afternoon. Matt Bower got the victory on the mound and Adam Bolf finished 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. Brett Oyer was 3 for 4 with an RBI and double.

Beamer was beaten Friday by Rogers, 7-5, after collecting only three hits during the game. Daniel Lee finished 1 for 2 with two RBIs and a double. Jeff Apigo took the loss on the mound.

Jefferson

The Raiders (4-10 SPSL North, 5-11 overall) dropped a pair of games Friday and Saturday. Kentwood downed TJ, 9-7, and Auburn won Saturday, 8-5.

Against Kentwood, the Raiders scored all seven of their runs in the top of the seventh inning after falling behind 9-0. Skyler Genger finished with two home runs for Kentwood.

Auburn took a quick 2-0 lead Saturday, but TJ responded with three runs in the top of the third. But the Trojans tallied four in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Jordan Barrett was 2 for 3 for the Raiders, as did Peter Bennett. Jefferson finished with 11 hits.
