After being abandoned for almost two years, an old LA Fitness building is having new life injected into it as the pickleball craze takes to Federal Way.
The Picklr announced on April 17 that the company is opening two new locations for indoor courts in Washington. Tacoma is getting their own brand new building, while the former LA Fitness at 27417 Pacific Highway S. will be the spot for Federal Way.
The 42,000 square foot building will house 13 courts, including two championship-sized courts. Both locations will have surfacing from the official court layer for The Professional Pickleball Association for Just Courts. There will also be a full pro shop and private event space.
The Federal Way owners are Sanket Mehta and Manish Kapadia.
“With state-of-the-art facilities, an all-inclusive one-price membership model, and a ‘player-first’ philosophy, The Picklr is redefining the indoor pickleball experience. The club is more than just a place to play. It’s a vibrant, welcoming community where players of all ages and skill levels can connect, grow, and thrive through the game of pickleball. From top-tier programming to year-round play, The Picklr is your new home for everything pickleball. We’re excited to bring this unique experience to Federal Way,” they said in a statement to The Picklr.
According to the Picklr’s website, they only offer what is called an unlimited membership, which after a 30 days for a $30 trial, will cost somewhere between $109 to $150. Membership rates are not currently available, but interested parties can sign up on the Picklr website and possibly lock in a founder membership rate, which will not increase for the lifetime of the membership and will be discounted.
The estimated opening date of the new pickleball courts is the end of 2025.
