Last Sunday, our community adjusted their clocks to Spring Forward. In Federal Way, like the new season upon us, we are seeing signs of life in areas that not too long ago seemed to reflect all the darkness of winter.
Recently, my wife received a ticket for not completely stopping at the right turn lane heading southbound on Pacific Highway S. where it meets S. 320th St. At the time, she was turning westbound onto S. 320th and the traffic on S. 320th was turning eastbound onto northbound Pacific Hwy. S. No chance for her to hit anyone or be hit by anyone heading westbound on 320th.
At a recent school board meeting, the point was made that collaboration time between teachers helped in their teaching of phonics.
Washington has a history of good government principles, public disclosure, transparency and hiring employees based on qualifications not connections. It ensures equality, not patronage, guide government practices. But is that still the view held by citizens, or have we become so cynical toward government that we think those long-held values are outdated?
Q: Mr. Federal Way, of late there’s been a lot of conversation about the plant in Tacoma that may send polluted or even poisonous gases toward Federal Way. Mayor Jim Ferrell held a meeting to get the word out to the citizens. This was a good thing, but Mr. Mayor does lots of meetings to get the word out and very little happens after that!
Q: Mr. Federal Way, last week one of the questions said South King Fire and Rescue did not attend the memorial for the young girl who died in the tree accident. I’ve heard differently. Which is it?
The 2016 legislative session was supposed to end this week. It will probably go on for a few more days.
Why are so many people running to become Washington’s next lieutenant governor?
What is wrong with our current political posturing for president by the candidates? We never see or hear them talk about the real issues. We never get a plan as to what they will do to correct many of our current governmental problems and challenges. We only get candidates that attack their opponents on a personal basis like third-graders. Are you as tired of this as I am?
Residents of 21st Ave. SW have lived here since 1990. It is not a freeway; it is a residential neighborhood.
Federal Way is so rich in culture from the many diverse communities that reside within and around city limits that one can’t help but notice when these communities celebrate their heritage.
On Wednesday, Feb. 10, Mayor Jim Ferrell called a special meeting of the City Council for Feb. 11 to get comments from Federal Way Citizens about the proposed methanol plant at the Port of Tacoma.
In December we asked for submissions from the public to join the Mirror’s Editorial Board. This year we have two expiring seats that opened due to term limits.
The other day I read the article “5 priests assigned to Federal Way abused children over decades” in the Jan. 29 Federal Way Mirror. Greg Magnoni, spokesperson for the Archidiocese of Seattle, is quoted as saying, “It’s easy to stand on the other side of this coin and suggest that things should have been done, but if you’re on this side of it, you realize it’s not possible in every single case… If anyone has ideas about how we can address things of this nature, believe me, we are open.”
Q: Mr. Federal Way, why did the Federal Way Police Department send their administration to the murdered teenager’s candlelight vigil but God forbid no one from South King Fire and Rescue came to the memorial for the young girl who died when a tree fell on her in August?
Just last month, incumbent Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee led Republican challenger Bill Bryant 39 percent to 30, according to an Elway poll, with 31 percent of voters undecided. Inslee’s number needs to be stronger. The poll also showed some vulnerability, with 58 percent rating the governor doing a “poor” or “fair” job.
Q: Mr. Federal Way, I had to giggle after I read your comment on shopping locally for marijuana — which you can’t do in Federal Way even though it’s legal.
Q: Why are local businesses/educational facilities/nonprofits so determined to get free editorial content and so reluctant to place paid advertising,
Those who cannot remember the past…
What better way to create awareness of life in our community than by including these inspirations in our everyday lives through the written medium?
