The Eastern Washington University football program is the destination for Zamarie Tellez as the Federal Way High School senior officially signed his letter of intent on Dec. 3 during a signing day event at the school.
Tellez has been one of the more remarkable football players at a football factory over the recent years with players like Chico McClatcher, Alphonzo Tuputala and even now Andre Jordan making head waves at the Division I level.
The senior wide receiver and defensive back is coming off a season where he was named the 3A NPSL Defensive Player of the Year.
Throughout his career, he recorded 15 interceptions, and six of them were returned for touchdowns. In his career, he lined up at safety, wide receiver, slot receiver, cornerback, running back and sometimes even quarterback in certain packages.
On Tellez via Athlete of the Week, “Zamarie’s impact has extended far beyond the field. A strong student with a high GPA, he is widely respected for his character, humility and leadership. He carries himself with confidence, but never arrogance, and is known throughout the building as a young man who consistently chooses to do the right thing.
“While the Eagles community is sad to see his high school football career come to a close, there is tremendous excitement for what lies ahead. Eastern Washington is gaining not only an elite athlete, but an outstanding student and person,” FWHS head football coach Marcus Yzaguirre said.
