The Todd Beamer track and field teams had a stellar day at the prestigious Tacoma Invitational Saturday at the Lincoln Bowl. The Titan girls finished up in second place behind Gig Harbor with 60 team points, while the Beamer boys were third overall.
The Titan girls were led by sophomore Alanna Vann, who won both the 100 and 200 meters. Vann ran a 12.40 in the 100 and a 25.39 to win the 200.
The Beamer girls also got second-place finishes from Chante Sposter in the 400 (59.25) and the 4×100 relay team of TreAnna Culp, Vann, Sydney Rogalla and Alishia Daniel in a time of 50.38.
On the boys’ side, the Titans were led by senior Willie Roach, who won the high jump Saturday with a leap of 6-0. Roach was also second in the 100 (11.22). Austin Hitchcock finished third in the 300 hurdles (40.24) and was fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.92).
Federal Way — The Eagle boys ended up in second place behind Gig Harbor at the 27-team Tacoma Invitational Saturday at Lincoln. The Federal Way girls were fourth overall with 53.5 points.
The Eagle boys finished with seven titles during the meet, including two by Aaron Persinger. The junior won the 110 hurdles in 15.19 and the 300 hurdles in 38.84. Persinger was also a part of the 4×400 relay winning team, which also included D.J. May, Jeremiah McNeal and Michael Tate (3:20.47).
Other titles came from Albert Havili in the discus (164-2), Tate in the long jump (22-6.5) and Keenan Curran in the triple jump (43-11). Federal Way also won the 4×100 relay title (42.67) with a team of McNeal, May, Tate and Kerson Lubin.
On the girls’ side, Federal Way freshman Mariyah Vongsaveng also swept the two hurdle races. She won the 100 hurdles in 15.71 and the 300 hurdles in 46.04. The 4×100 relay team of Ta’Mara Richey, Karis Cameron, Zaedrea Robinson and Vongsaveng also won in 50.2.
Richey finished second in the long jump (17-7.25) and third in the triple jump (34-2).
Jefferson — The Raiders also had a pretty good day at the Tacoma Invitational Saturday. The girls finished in third place and the boys in 17th.
Jefferson was led by junior Montana Pellegrini, who won the pole vault competition with a leap of 10-6. Senior Lindsey Dahl was second in the triple jump (34-8) and the TJ 4×200 relay team of Mikayla Allen, Kassandra Carrel, Cheryl Hong and Courtney Walker were also second in 1:49.22. Hong also finished third in the 200 meters (26.8).
On the boys’ side, Kendall Green took home a third place in the 400 (51.27) and Jefferson Aumua was fourth in the shot put (46-7.75).
SOCCER
Beamer — The Titans (4-4-2) had four different goal scorers during a 4-0 win over Graham-Kapowsin Friday night.
Beamer picked up goals from Keaton House, Christian Stafford, Kelvin Horne and Paul Park during the win.
Federal Way — The Eagles (7-1-1) got an easy 9-0 win over Spanaway Lake Friday night. Federal Way trails only Puyallup (9-1-0) in the SPSL South standings.
The Eagles got two goals each from Colin Kim, Sean Rigney and Javier Dieguez and single goals from Alex Lewis, Sean Tang and Garrett Brewer. Koby Craig and Edwin Ortiz combined on the shut out in net.
Decatur — The Gators (9-1-0) remained in a first-place tie with Peninsula in the SPSL 3A standings with a 2-1 win over Auburn Mountainview Friday night.
Decatur’s goals came from Max Henry and Michael Klavuhn during the game. Klavuhn’s game-winning goal came in the 73rd minute. The senior has 15 goals on the season for the Gators.
BASEBALL
Decatur — The Gators fell behind 4-0 early to the Peninsula Seahawks before coming back late. But the comeback wasn’t good enough and the Seahawks won the SPSL 3A game Friday, 4-3.
The loss dropped Decatur to 3-11 overall. Kyle Robbins took the loss on the mound. The Gators had only five hits on the day.
Federal Way — The Eagles (5-7) struggled again on the offensive side of the ball during an 8-2 loss to Graham-Kapowsin Friday. Graham-Kapowsin took a 5-0 lead before the Eagles tallied both of their runs in the bottom of the fourth. But that was all the scoring Federal Way would do. The Eagles had only four hits and committed five errors.
SOFTBALL
Beamer — The Titans (6-3) blew away the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles Friday afternoon in Federal Way, 11-0, in five innings. Beamer pounded out 14 hits and the Titans’ Madison Rogers finished with a no-hitter on the mound.
Offensively, Beamer was led by Megan Jewitt-Chan and Megan Lindgren. Jewitt-Chan finished 2 for 2 with a home run, double and four RBIs and Lindgren was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a triple.
Jefferson — The Raiders (6-3) tallied six runs in their last two at bats Saturday to beat the Auburn Trojans, 7-4. Jefferson finished with 15 hits against Auburn and were led by Lexi Goranson. The centerfielder finished 3 for 4 with five RBIs, a home run and a double.
Alyssa Keyes and Bailey Rundle were both 3 for 4 with an RBI and double for TJ.
Federal Way — The Eagles (0-6) gave up 13 runs in the top of the first and lost 28-2 to the Rogers Rams on Friday. Jessica Scanson finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and double.
