PREP SPORTS WRAP: District soccer teams open SPSL season with impressive victories

Tuesday marked opening night of soccer action in the South Puget Sound League North and South Divisions and things couldn't have gone better for Jefferson, Federal Way and Beamer.

Tuesday marked opening night of soccer action in the South Puget Sound League North and South Divisions and things couldn’t have gone better for Jefferson, Federal Way and Beamer.

The three Class 4A schools from the district all started league play with victories. The Raiders shut out Auburn, 1-0, Federal Way won an offensive shootout, 6-3, over Emerald Ridge and the Titans got by Graham-Kapowsin, 3-2.

Jefferson’s lone goal came from Brandon Madsen. McKay Owsley got the shutout in goal. Federal Way got two goals each from Handson Pelogi and Edwin Ortiz and single goals from Odasson Pelogi and Alex Lewis.

Beamer’s three goals Tuesday came from Hassani Dotson, Aung Ta and Jake Gregg.

Decatur — The Gators opened their season with a 3-1 win over Steilacoom Monday in a non-league game at Federal Way Memorial Stadium. Decatur got goals from Jake Ruiz, Nick Karis and Moses Griffin.

Softball

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders started their quest for a fifth-straight state tournament with a 13-3 non-league win over Decatur Tuesday.

The Raiders scored four runs in the second and six in the third inning. Decatur mustered just two hits off TJ pitcher Rocky Hale, who finished with eight strikeouts.

Freshman Sam Simundson finished 3 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs. Bailey Rundle was 3 for 3 with three runs for TJ.

Baseball

Beamer — The Titans moved to 1-1 on the year with a 6-5 victory over the Decatur Gators Tuesday. Beamer scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI from Lawyer Braun. Braun finished 2 for 4 with a double.

Decatur tied the game at 5-5 with two runs in the top of the seventh. Isaiah Hatch finished 2 for 4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs for the Gators.

Beamer’s Taylor Davis got the win on the mound. Scott Sunitsch finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Drew Hoefel finished 1 for 2 with two runs and two stolen bases.

Jefferson — The Raiders moved to 2-0 with a 4-3 win over Nathan Hale Monday in a non-leaguer. Niko DelaCruz got the win on the mound after throwing six innings and allowing two earned runs. Jordan Price threw the seventh and picked up the save.

Offensively, TJ was led by Sean Dolan, who was 2 for 3 with a double, RBI and a run. Alec Chanes was 2 for 3 and Alex Poltz finished 1 for 1 with an RBI and a stolen base.
