Makoa Rosa and brother Kainoa Rosa finished fifth in doubles a season ago and Brandyn Gomez also played doubles at state. All three happen to also be Hawaiian. Jefferson finished a perfect 10-0 last year to win the SPSL Central Division crown and are the odds-on favorites to snare another league title.

Federal Way Eagles

Coach: Jerome Collins

Last year’s record: 5-5 (third place in Central)

Key returners: Sr. Dalton Alvey; Jr. Ben Blackner; Soph. Alex Lewis; Sr. Gorav Gupta.

Key newcomer: Fr. Mitch Stewart

Key losses: Chase McLaughlin; Max Ward; Matt Havili; Colby Lance; Bradley Lewis.

Notable: Freshman Mitch Stewart is making the most anticipated arrival in the SPSL tennis world since Kentwood’s Max Manthou joined the league five years ago. Stewart is currently the 32nd ranked junior in the nation and recently finished as the consolation runner up at the United States Tennis Association’s Boys 14-under National Championships in San Antonio. After losing his first-round match, Stewart won nine matches in a row. A lot of experts expect Stewart to become just the second four-time state champion in the state of Washington. Manthou won four-straight from 2007-10 and is now playing at the University of Washington.
