The seventh-ranked Federal Way Eagles remained unbeaten Thursday night with a 48-20 win over the Emerald Ridge Jaguars.

The victory at Federal Way Memorial Stadium ran the Eagles’ record to a perfect 4-0 in the South Puget Sound League South Division and sets up a huge matchup with the Bethel Braves Friday in Graham.

Bethel is the only other unbeaten team in the SPSL South. The Braves’ lone loss came to Odessa Permian in their season-opener at the school’s 20,000-seat stadium in Texas.

Federal Way senior running back D.J. May was again the difference for the Eagles on Thursday. May ran for 234 yards on just 16 carries and tallied three more touchdowns, helping Federal Way amass 416 rushing yards on the night.

May started the Eagles’ first-half scoring barrage with a 14-yarder in the first quarter. Junior wide receiver Mike Tate followed with a 4-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Evan Elliot to give Federal Way a 13-0 lead.

Emerald Ridge’s (2-2) lone first-half points came on a 5-yard TD catch by Blake Symmons to cut the Eagle lead to 13-6.

But Federal Way scored four touchdowns to basically put the game away. Zeke McNeal scampered 60 yards for a score, Rod Jones dove in from 1-yard out, May went 59 yards and freshman running back Chico McCatcher broke through the Emerald Ridge line for a 39-yard touchdown. May scored his third touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 38-yard run.

Federal Way’s defense held Emerald Ridge’s quarterback Jake Sommer to just 16-of-38 passing for 151 yards. Junior linebacker Albert Havili picked off two Sommer passes.
