The only player in the history of Decatur High School basketball to play in four state tournaments during his career is heading to Seattle University.

Jordan McCloud, the Gators’ versatile 6-foot-6 forward, inked his National Letter of Intent Wednesday to join the Redhawk basketball program, which is coached by former University of Washington assistant Cameron Dollar.

“It’s an up and coming program and a it’s a great opportunity for me to succeed academically,” McCloud said. “Coach Dollar started talking to me in the middle of the season and it continued through the end of the season. I just thought he was the best fit for me and just decided to sign with him.”

McCloud was the Gators’ best post player all season long and was a first-team, All-South Puget Sound League South Division selection. He averaged 16.8 points and 12 rebounds a game for Decatur and also shot 50 percent from the field.

McCloud finished with nine 20-plus point games during his senior season and scored a career-high 31 during a Jan. 26 loss to the South champion Curtis Vikings. Decatur finished seventh at the 2010 Class 4A State Tournament.

“Jordan is as versatile a basketball player as one will see,” Dollar said. “He is a good ball handler, passer and shooter. He affects the game in many areas.”

But McCloud will have to wait a couple years before stepping on the Seattle University campus. McCloud will spend the next two years at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene.

McCloud will play at North Idaho next year and then redshirt during his sophomore year while earning his Associated of Arts degree. He will then have three years of basketball eligibility when he transfers to Seattle University in 2012.

McCloud will join former Decatur and Federal Way point guard Michael Hale at North Idaho. As a freshman, Hale was selected to the NJCAA All-American second team after averaging 11.7 points, 4.1 assists and 1.3 steals a game for the Cardinals, who finished eighth at the NJCAA National Tournament.

“Basically Coach Dollar wants me to get stronger (at North Idaho),” McCloud said. “He knows all about my game and knows I’m going to fit in well with the program. He knows I can play inside and out. He just wants me to get a little bigger and be more physical.”

McCloud will join a long line of former Gators to take their basketball games to college. Currently, there are seven Decatur players on college rosters. JaRon Brown (’06 grad) led Montana-Western to the NAIA National Tournament last year, Sted Richardson (’07) is at Northwest University in Kirkland, Darious Walker (’08) is playing at Northwest Nazarene, Cam Schilling (’09) is starting at Pacific Lutheran, Marcus Tibbs (’09) is playing at Bellevue Community College, Jordan Rawls (’09) is at Peninsula CC and Justin Storres (’97) is at Lower Columbia CC.

McCloud was one of six players signed by Seattle University on Wednesday, the first day of the spring signing period. Also inking with the Redhawks were Brandon Durham (Central Kitsap, Lane Community College), Jarell Flora (Bremerton), Lonnie Pearson (Rainier Beach), Taylor Stevens (Marysville, North Idaho) and Nkosi Ali (Georgia).

Seattle University finished the 2009-10 season with a 17-14 record, winning eight of its last nine games to end the year above .500 against a complete Division-I schedule, a first for a school in the first full year of transitioning to the Division-I level.

Federal Way High School grad Aaron Broussard started 30 games for the Redhawks, averaging 10.3 points and 5.1 rebounds.
