Federal Way woman, 88, found shot dead; son charged with first-degree murder

Jerry Thompson, 65, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Alberta Thompson, 88. At approximately 3:45 p.m. April 14, Federal Way police were dispatched to the 30200 block of 26th Place South for a welfare check.

Upon arrival, police forced entry into the residence and found a deceased 88-year-old woman. A gunshot wound is thought to be her cause of death, Federal Way police Cmdr. Chris Norman said. Police are not releasing details about the number of times the woman was shot or the location of her injuries.

A male, 67, was also found in the residence. He suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, according to police. The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center. He is in serious but stable condition and is expected to live.

The man and woman lived together, according to police. They are believed to be related, but their relation is unknown, Norman said.
