Basketball is truly a worldwide game. Just ask Aaron Broussard.

The Federal Way High School graduate was recently named the Most Valuable Player of Iceland’s Express League championship series. Broussard’s Grindavik team held off Stjarnan in the decisive game of the five-game title series. Grindavik won the fifth game, 79-74.

Broussard finished the final game on April 28 with 25 points, nine assists and five assists to lead Grindavik. During the five-game series, Broussard averaged 28.6 points and 10 rebounds a game. Even more impressive is the fact that he averaged 34 points during Grindavik’s three wins in the championship series, including 39 in the opening game.

During the Icelandic regular season, the 6-foot-5 Broussard played in 33 games and averaged 24.3 points. He also averaged 9.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.4 steals a game and shot 52 percent from the field.

Broussard was the top vote getter to the league’s all-star game during the middle part of the season.

After graduating from Federal Way High School in 2008, Broussard went on to star for four seasons at Seattle University. The small forward was selected to the 2012 Division I Men’s Basketball All-Independent Team.

He led the Redhawks in scoring at 18.2 points a game during his senior season and finished his Seattle U career 13th on the all-time scoring list with 1,455 points. He is also second on the school’s all-time steals list with 161.

Broussard averaged 7.5 points a game as a freshman, 10.3 as a sophomore and 14.5 as a junior for the Redhawks.

Broussard really started establishing himself as one of the better basketball players in the state during Federal Way’s run during the 2008 Class 4A State Boys Basketball Tournament. The then-senior, led the Eagles to the program’s first-ever appearance in the state title game, which ended in a loss to unbeaten Ferris.

Broussard was a monster during Federal Way’s four-game run to second place. He averaged 20.3 points and was named first-team, all-tournament. He tallied 29 points, 14 rebounds and three steals during Federal Way’s semifinal win over Decatur.

TJ’s Park commits to play at Wheaton College

• Current Thomas Jefferson senior Danny Park will play basketball at Wheaton College. The 5-foot-11 point guard committed to the Division III program just outside of Chicago recently.

Park was a three-year letter winner at TJ and is on the top-10 list at the school in assists and steals. He is also in the top-20 in points, according to head coach Kyle Templeton.

As a senior, Park averaged 9.7 points, led the team with 5.3 assists and grabbed 4.0 rebounds a game.

But Park’s true meaning came on the defensive side of the court for Jefferson. The 5-foot-11 guard was one of the best on-ball defenders in the SPSL, according to Templeton.

“Danny did a great job running the team this last year,” Templeton said. “He has worked extremely hard to become a college basketball player. Danny’s athleticism and skills are going to make him a very good player in Division III. He is the best on-ball defender I have ever been around. That skill will definitely translate to the next level”

Wheaton finished the 2012-13 season with a record of 21-7. They lost at the NCAA Division III Tournament.
