King County Council sends parks levy to August ballot

If approved, that money would go toward the county's 200 parks, 175 miles of regional trails, and 26,000 acres of open space. The levy would also add more trails throughout the regional system.

King County voters will have the chance to vote on a six-year property tax levy for county parks in August.

The King County Council approved putting the measure to voters earlier this week. Along with raising money for taking care of county parks, the levy will also disperse money to local municipalities for park systems and Woodland Park Zoo.

The measure being sent to the ballot will replace two levies that expire at the end of 2013.

“All residents of King County have access to the regional park and trail system,” said council chairan Larry Gossett. “This ordinance will give the people the opportunity to decide how much value they get from the system.”
