Police continue investigating three Federal Way homicides and one shooting that occurred over 48 hours this week.

Federal Way resident Alex J. Kelley was killed early Monday, Tacoma resident Frank Cohens was killed Monday night and Adam Gutierrez, a northeast Tacoma resident, was killed Tuesday night.

The murders brought the total number of homicides in the city this year to five.

Detectives do not believe the recent killings are connected.

Adam Gutierrez

Federal Way police responded to the 1800 block of Southwest 356th Street after reports of shots fired at about 11:10 Tuesday night. Arriving officers found Gutierrez, 30, who had been shot multiple times. Gutierrez, a resident of northeast Tacoma, was treated by medical personnel but died on-scene. According to Federal Way Police Chief Andy Hwang, Gutierrez was on a jog with his dog when he was killed.

Police say there is no obvious motive to the shooting.

He was third to be killed in Federal Way this week.

Frank Cohens Jr.

Cohens, 27, was killed the previous night, marking the second homicide and third shooting to occur in Federal Way this week.

Officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of South 333rd Street at 11:37 p.m. on Monday. There, officers found Cohens slumped over in a vehicle and dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Police believe Cohens, a Tacoma resident, was involved in drug activity prior to his murder.

Police found 26-year-old Kelley shot to death early Monday morning at the Arcadia Townhomes and Apartments.

Federal Way police were dispatched to apartments in the 1300 block of SW Campus Drive at about 1 a.m. in response to reports of gunfire. Kelley was found with a gunshot wound to his back and was pronounced dead on-scene by medical personnel.

Later Monday morning, police responded to another shooting. A 19-year-old man shot a 21-year-old man in the chest, although that shooting is thought to have been accidental.
