A man died after being struck by a car on Interstate 5 near South 317th Street at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28.

Robert Tenaruiz, 21, was killed while trying to retrieve a box that had fallen from a red Chevy pickup he was a passenger in.

The box fell off the vehicle as he and another man were heading southbound on Interstate 5. After pulling to the side of the road, Tenaruiz attempted to retrieve the box from the freeway and was struck by a Nissan Sentra. There were three children in Sentra.

The roadway was blocked for just over two hours following the accident. No other people involved in the accident were injured.
