After an investigation by the police department’s bomb squad, a suspicious suitcase in Federal Way turned out to be “a big nothing.”

At 1:48 p.m. Tuesday, Federal Way police received a call about an old suitcase leaning against a wall at the U.S. Post Office, 32829 Pacific Highway S. About an hour and a half later, police sent the bomb squad as a precautionary measure. The building was evacuated and the suitcase was investigated.

An officer in protective gear X-rayed the suitcase. When no wires or other suspicious things were viewed in the film, the bomb team decided a mechanical robot was not needed to destroy the suitcase. A uniformed officer retrieved the item. Both the post office and Grocery Outlet were open for business again around 4:40 p.m.

“It’s a big nothing,” said Cmdr. Kyle Sumpter, reporting the findings of the bomb squad. “It is just a suitcase left behind by somebody. They’re clearing the area.”
