The 18th annual MLK event, held Jan. 17 at Decatur High School, brought a crowd eager to celebrate Federal Way’s diversity. The lineup included several artistic and musical performances; excerpts from King’s speeches; awarding of prizes for the Diversity Commission’s student art contest; pledges by the audience, city council members and mayor to do something in 2011 to build community; keynote speaker Carl Livingston, Jr, a political science professor at Seattle Central Community College; and the lighting of the Community Flame, among other things.
