One woman died after she was ejected from her vehicle during a three-car crash in Federal Way on Sunday night.

The deceased driver is a 40-year-old woman from Hillsboro, Oregon. Her identity has not yet been released pending next-of-kin notification, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

The crash was caused by an unsafe lane change and drugs or alcohol were also involved, according to WSP.

Around 6:40 p.m. March 20, the 40-year-old woman was driving a Dodge Ram north on I-5 near South 304th Street when she struck a Mazda Protege and began to spin.

The woman’s Dodge then struck a Kia Forte and both vehicles drove off I-5 onto Military Road South below, according to WSP.

The woman was ejected from her vehicle when she struck a tree. She was not wearing a seatbelt, according to WSP.

The Kia Forte flipped and came to a stop upside down on Military Road South. A 60-year-old Tacoma man driving the Kia Forte was transported to Harborview Medical Center for minor injuries, according to WSP.

The Mazda stopped on the shoulder of I-5. Passengers in the Mazda — a 44-year-old Seattle man, a 14-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl — were not injured.
