Federal Way opening cooling center July 15 and 16

The Community Center will act as a cooling center that will be open from noon on July 15, to 10 p.m. on July 16.

The Federal Way Community Center will act as a cooling shelter open to all for free.

On July 14, City of Federal Way Emergency Manager Kevin Pelley announced that the Federal Way Community Center, 876 South 333rd St., would act as a cooling center ahead of expected high temperatures. Pelley said the community center would be open from noon on July 15, to 10 p.m. on July 16, as a cooling center.

“We are opening the Federal Way Community Center (FWCC) as a cooling center during regular business hours Tuesday, July 15, and Wednesday, July 16, due to the expected dangerous levels of heat,” said Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell. “Some weather forecasts are predicting a high of 92 degrees in our region on Wednesday, July 15. The City of Federal Way is committed to ensuring the safety of our hard-working residents.”

According to Pelley, the cooling center is open to the public free of charge, but no pets are allowed.
