Federal Way native Jackson Dovey recently finished 151 out of 2,235 competitors from around the world in the invite-only Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Mount Tremblant, Canada.
“The bike was very challenging with over 2,800 feet of climbing on perfectly paved roads,” Dovey wrote in an email. “… The run took us through a two-loop course with 1500 feet of climbing, complete with a stadium-style finish and a quarter mile stretch lined with screaming fans, 10 deep the entire way.”
He had his best swim to date during the event, 24:49, and came out of the water in 12th place. He said the highlight of the world championships was “out-sprinting another racer and diving across the finish line. My total time was 4:19:13, which brought me home in 25th place [in the run event] and the fourth American.”
Dovey is currently ranked 17th in the world in the 30-35 age group and ninth in the U.S.
He ranks in the top 1 percent in the world of all triathletes.
Next, he will compete in the Ironman 70.3 Las Vegas on Oct. 5.
