Kent police continue Federal Way shooting investigation

Kent police department is still investigating the Aug. 19 incident in which a 20-year-old man was shot by Federal Way police.

Thus far, it appears as though police acted accordingly, Kent police Chief Steve Strachan said.

“We have more investigative work to do, but based on the preliminary results and the statements we have taken from eyewitnesses, the officers clearly acted appropriately,” he said.

The two officers responded to the domestic disturbance call at 9:21 p.m. in the 27300 block of 24th Avenue South. They found three occupants in the residence. The suspect was naked and belligerent. He picked up a knife and held it above his head before charging at the officers, reports said. The officers fired, injuring the man.

The suspect was treated at the scene and transported to Harborview Medical Center. He underwent surgery and suffers from non life-threatening injuries. His current condition is unknown.

The Federal Way officers are on paid administrative leave until Kent police are finished investigating, according to a Federal Way police statement.
