Track and Field: Federal Way boys extend win streak, finish unbeaten in SPSL Central Division

The Federal Way boys track and field team cruised to their third-straight South Puget Sound League Division championship Wednesday with an 81-64 win over Jefferson.

The dual meet victory extended the Eagles’ unbeaten streak to 23 and completed Federal Way’s third-straight unbeaten season in the SPSL.

The Eagles got two individual event victories from Robert Shelby and Maurice McNeal. Shelby won the 110-meter hurdles in a tie of 15.09 and the 300 hurdles in 39.74 and McNeal took the 100 (11.15) and 200 in 22.45.

Federal Way also got event wins from Uso Olive in the shot put (45-9), Johnny Miles in the high jump (5-6), DJ May in the long jump (20-4), Ezekiel McNeal in the 400 (50.6) and both relays. The Eagles took the 400 relay in 46.66 and the 1,600 relay in 3:34.15. Federal Way has the state’s best times in both relays.

Jefferson (3-2) also got some impressive individual results during Wednesday’s meet, especially from Chase Braxmeyer. The junior completed the rare three-event sweep of the 800, 1,600 and 3,200. Braxmeyer won the 800 in 1:59.70, the 1,600 in 4:25.40 and the 3,200 in 10:06.31.

The Raiders also got wins from Mikhail Vlasenko in the discus (133-5), Keegan Giles in the javelin (137-8), Michael Sallee in the triple jump (40-7) and Matt Barner in the pole vault (13-0).

On the girls’ side, Jefferson (4-1) finished up its SPSL Central regular season with an 89-61 win over Federal Way.

The Raiders got a pair of wins from Kayla Adams in the shot put (40-3 1/2) and discus (121-3). Jefferson’s other victories came from Kendra Ansotigue in the javelin (88-1), Lindsey Dahl in the long jump (16-7), Sydney Walker and Allison Arthur in the pole vault (8-0), Bailey Warrior in the 100 (13.26), Leah Kiyohara in the 3,200 (12:00.99) and Kristina Jones in the 400 (1:06.55).

The Eagles (1-4) got double wins from Jaleecia Roland, Tiara Fuller and Jasmine Johnson. Roland won the high jump (5-2) and triple jump (37-0), Fuller won the 100 hurdles (15.89) and 300 hurdles (47.04) and Johnson won the 800 (2:24.04) and 1,600 (5:25.4). Laneisha Roland won the 200 in 27.6.

The track and field postseason kicks off Wednesday at French Field in Kent at the SPSL Championships. The meet continues Friday.

In other track and field action:

• The Decatur Gators were swept by the Auburn Riverside Ravens Wednesday. The boys lost 106-39 and the girls were beaten 111-37 in their regular season finales.

On the boys’ side, the Gators (1-4) got wins from Jordan Wernet in the shot put (42-9 1/2), Andrew Jowett in the discus (128-5), CJ Pellum in the 100 meters (11.66), Isaac Ochoa in the 200 (22.74) and Tyrone Faulkner in the 400 (52.56).

On the girls’ side, Alaina Butler was the only Gator (1-4) athlete to win an event against Auburn Riverside. Butler won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.67 and the triple jump with a leap of 32-8.
