TJ bowlers seek donations to compete at nationals

The TJHS bowling team qualified for the 2018 U.S. High School National Bowling Championship.

The Thomas Jefferson High School bowling team is attempting to return to the 2018 U.S. High School National Bowling Championship, which takes place June 23-24 in Fairview Heights, Illinois.

The TJHS team has qualified for the tournament, but lacks the financial means to attend, according to coach Joseph Townsend. The team is currently selling raffle tickets at Secoma Lanes to raise money for the trip. The Thomas Jefferson Raider Parent Movement is also collecting donations for the team at www.tjrpm.org/donate-tj-bowling.html.

The Raiders won the West Central District Bowling Tournament title at Pacific Lanes on Jan. 27. Townsend, who helped lead his team to a second-place state finish along with the West Central District and NPSL championships, was named 2018 North Puget Sound League Bowling Coach of the Year.
