Things didn’t start out too well for the state champion Steel Lake Little League Senior baseball team Tuesday night. The Federal Way 14 and 15 year olds were blown away by Summerlin North Little League in their opening game of the 2008 Western Regional Tournament in Upland, Calif.

Summerlin North, the Nevada state champions from just outside of Las Vegas, beat Steel Lake, 10-0.

The loss dropped Steel Lake into the loser’s bracket of the nine-team tournament. They took on Mt. Jumbo Little League from Missoula, Mont. in a loser-out game Thursday (after press time).

Steel Lake qualified for the regional tournament by winning the Washington State Senior Little League championship and the District 10 title.

Steel Lake beat Pacwest Little League in the state title game at Mosier Park in Burien.

The World Series will include five regional champions from the United States, as well as teams from Canada, Europe, Latin America and the Asian-Pacific.
