The 11 and 12 year olds proved it by winning the District 10 Little League Softball Tournament last week at Brannon Park in Auburn.

Steel Lake was forced to beat Chinook Little League in the championship round on Sunday after losing to Chinook in the first title game earlier in the day. Chinook Little League hails from Enumclaw and Buckley.

Steel Lake downed Auburn in their opener, Bonney Lake/Sumner in the second and Kent/Tahoma in the semifinals before meeting Chinook, the winner’s of the consolation bracket.

The 2008 Steel Lake Little League faspitch all-star team includes Annalise Campbell, Halle Colson, Madeline Colson, Shelina Crowl, Emilia Finnsson, Jasmin Fulmore, Katie Jackson, Emma Larsen, Lexis Pawlowski, Celine Woo, Alyssa Woods and Alysea Zaragoza. The team is managed by Terome Fulmore and coached by Mark Larsen.

The District 10 Tournament included seven teams, with Steel Lake being the lone Federal Way representative. They now advance to the Washington State Little League Softball Tournament in Walla Walla.

Steel Lake will take on the winner of the District 5 Tournament at 10 a.m. at the Walla Walla Pacific Complex today. The state tournament will end on July 18 and includes 10 teams.

Steel Lake downed Kent Little League in a semifinal game on Wednesday night and will take on the winner of the loser’s bracket at 10 a.m. at Sunset Park in Auburn today. Steel Lake will have to lose twice to not win the district title.

The District 10 Tournament is the first step on the road to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. To qualify for the Little League World Series, an all-star team must win district, state and regional tournament titles.

The Steel Lake Little League all-star team includes Tommy Amato, Jesse Fite, Drew Huttenlocker, Jake Kolterman, Hunter McSwain, Mikey Jojica, Jacob Nugent, Zachary Lane, Alex Poltz, Jordan Price, Clayton Regehr and Eddie Sweeney. The team is coached by Rich Price and Scott Kolterman.

The Federal Way American Little League all-star team was still alive in the District 10 Tournament at press time. The Americans played Kent Thursday night in a loser-out game (after press time) and would have to have beaten either Auburn or Soundview Friday night to earn a shot at Steel Lake in the championship.

The Federal Way American Little League all-star team includes Mitch Stewart, Rylan Cratsenberg, Alexander Lewis, Andrew Maertins, Kyren Proctor, Branden Shires, Garrett Brewer, Devin Pegues, Joe Potts, Ben Willis and Ian Korzeniecki.

Federal Way American lost their opener to Chinook, before beating South Hill, Chinook and Bonney Lake/Sumner in the loser’s bracket.
