The Jefferson and Decatur girls golf teams brought home some hardware for their respective trophy cases from the state tournaments, which were held Tuesday and Wednesday in the Vancouver area.
Both the Raiders and Gators finished in fourth place in the team standings. Jefferson, led by Alexus Song and Hanna Yi, tallied 69.5 points at the Club Green Meadows Golf Course during the 4A tournament. Decatur, led by Celia Beyke’s fifth-place individual finish, ended up with 49.5 points during the 3A championships at the Lewis River Golf Course.
Song, a senior who has qualified for the state tournament in all four of her seasons at TJ, led the Raiders with a fifth-place finish Wednesday with a two-round total of 161. Song followed up a first-round 80 Tuesday with an 81 Wednesday. Bellarmine Prep’s Olivia Benzin won the 4A girls individual state title with rounds of 78 and 73 (151).
Song will play next season at Seattle University after helping TJ win three consecutive South Puget Sound League Central Division titles. Individually, Song won one league title and finished second twice.
Yi finished up right behind Song in seventh place at the state tournament. Yi fired a first-round 80 and followed with an 83 Wednesday.
Bellarmine won the team title with a total of 168 points, followed by Kentwood (92.5) and Eastlake (91.5).
In the 3A girls tournament, Beyke led a group of three Decatur golfers to make the cut. Beyke, a sophomore, shot back-to-back 81s at Lewis River. Taylor Trembly finished in 33rd place with a two-round total of 194 and Miranda Lehman ended up in 35th with a total of 196.
Hanford won the team title with 109 points, followed by Mount Spokane (68) and Enumclaw (57). Columbia River’s Chloe Bartek won the individual crown with an impressive total of 143.
On the boys’ side, Decatur’s Spencer Clapp ended up in a tie for 17th-place overall at the 3A boys tournament at the Tri-Mountain Golf Course. Clapp shot a pair of 79s for a two-round total of 158. Clapp’s teammate, Tyler Finnseth, shot an opening round 86 and failed to make the cut.
In the Class 4A tournament, Jefferson’s A.J. Seo failed to make the cut by just one stroke after shooting an opening-round 81 at the Camas Meadows Golf Course. Beamer’s Tyler Martinez also missed the cut with a round of 87 Tuesday.
