Lakota Middle School seventh-grader Jon Langmack and the rest of his Tacoma Rockets AA Pee Wee hockey team recently won the gold medals at the California State Games in San Diego and the Tier 2 Washington State Championships.

The Tacoma Rockets went undefeated during the California Games. The Rockets beat the Fresno Monsters, 11-0, San Diego Gulls, 2-1, Arizona Bladerunners, 8-1, and the Denver Pioneers, 4-0, to secure the gold medal.

The Tacoma Rockets have played in several out-of-state tournaments this season. They finished third at the Fall Face Off Tournament in Boise, and finished second at the Silver Stick Tournament in San Jose.

The Rockets won the State Championships last weekend in Kennewick in the Pee Wee Division. They also won the league championship with a win over the Everett Jr. Silvertips on Feb. 24.

Langmack started playing hockey as a 5-year-old and is the assistant team captain for the Tacoma Rockets, who are coached by Jared Bucci. The Rockets skate out of the Puget Sound Hockey Center in Tacoma and the Sprinker Recreation Center in Spanaway.

Langmack is a defender and the team practices six nights a week. He also runs track for Lakota and his 4×100 relay team won first place at the Washington Track and Field finals. Langmack, who is in the Cambridge program at Lakota, also plays lacrosse during the spring and summer.
