SOCCER WRAP: Jefferson and Decatur lead SPSL divisions: Beamer still unbeaten in league play

While baseball and softball games are getting rained out left and right during the last month, the area soccer teams just keep playing. And playing well.

Federal Way school district teams currently lead two of the three divisions in the South Puget Sound League. Jefferson took over first place in the SPSL North and the Decatur Gators are unbeaten in SPSL 3A action. Beamer (6-0-2) also hasn’t lost an SPSL South game, but trails Emerald Ridge (7-0-1) in the standings.

Jefferson took control of the North Division with a come-from-behind win over the Tahoma Bears Monday night in Maple Valley and a 2-0 shutout of Kentlake Wedensday.

Monday, the Raiders (6-1-1) needed a pair of goals from Jimmy Oganga late in the second half to overcome a 2-1 Tahoma lead. Oganga took a pass from Chase Hanson in the 70th minute to tie the game and tallied the game-winner in the 87th minute on an assist from Glenn Carpenter.

Jefferson’s other goal came from Omar Ebdi on a pass from Oganga in the 55th minute.

The loss was the first of the season for the third-place Bears. Kentwood, who handed the Raiders’ their lone loss, sits in second place in the North with a 5-0-3 record.

Jefferson will take on the Conquerors in Kent on Tuesday in their second meeting of the season.

Against Kentlake Wednesday, the Raiders got a first-half goal from Hanson and Omar Ebdi took an Oganga pass in the 58th minute to finalize the scoring. Owsley picked up another shutout in goal.

Decatur

The Gators remained in first-place in the South Puget Sound League 3A Division with a pair of wins over Lakes and Peninsula. Decatur downed Peninsula Monday, 4-1, at Federal Way Memorial Stadium and beat Lakes, 1-0, Wednesday night.

The Gators (4-0-0 SPSL 3A) got another big-time performance from Dominique Dismuke in both games. The junior, who plays on the Sounder FC 18-under Academy Team, finished with two goals and two assists against Peninsula and tallied the only goal of the game in the win over Lakes. Dismuke has scored four goals in the Gators’ last three matches.

The Gators also got goals from Nick Karis and Ali Villalon during the win over Peninsula.

Beamer

The Titans (6-0-2) picked up a hat trick from Ike Crook during a 5-0 shutout of the Spanaway Lake Sentinels Wednesday night. The three goals gave Crook six on the season.

Beamer also got goals from Troy Peterson and Kelvin Horne. Peterson, who leads the Titans’ in scoring with seven goals, also added three assists in the game.

Federal Way

The Eagles dropped both of their games this week to Puyallup and Rogers.

Federal Way (4-3-1) suffered the 2-1 loss Monday to the Vikings (6-2-0) at Sparks Stadium. All three of the goals came in the second half.

Puyallup’s Tyler Thiel opened the scoring with a goal in the 60th minute on a pass from Evan Robicheau and Thiel added his second of the game two minutes later to make it 2-0.

Federal Way’s lone goal of the match came in the 74th minute from Alex Lewis on a pass from Odason Pelogi.

Rogers downed the Eagles 2-0 on Wednesday night.
