Seattle University women’s soccer senior defender Jordan Salisbury was named a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week after helping the Redhawks (7-3-0) put together a perfect weekend of work at the UNLV NIKE Invitational, which ended Sept. 18.
At the tournament, Salisbury was a major contributor in the Redhawks come-from-behind victory over host-UNLV on Sept. 16. After allowing the Rebels to score an early go-ahead goal, the veteran defender rallied the Redhawk defensive efforts to prevent UNLV from getting on the board again. Their efforts also allowed the SU offense to send in a pair of second half goals to earn a 2-1 victory.
Two days later, the Todd Beamer High School graduate connected with Mary Hill’s free kick to head in the Redhawks opening goal in their 3-1 victory over San Diego State, who has been in the national rankings this season.
Salisbury has started in all 10 games this season and has had a significant part in Seattle U’s three shutouts this year, including a 2-0 win over then-No. 8 Portland on Sept. 2. In addition, she has been an integral part of Seattle U’s offensive efforts. She’s scored three goals this season, all headers, and is the team’s second-leading scorer.
“Jordan has had a great season thus far and I’m happy for her to receive this honor,” said head coach Julie Woodward. “She’s had an incredible year, not only in terms of her defending, but she also has had some offensive productivity for us. She has scored three unbelievable goals and is a natural leader. Jordan is a true competitor and has been a major part in our wins this season.”
Salisbury started all 18 matches for the Redhawks last year and had one goal.
In a twist, Salisbury and the rest of her Seattle U teammates will took on Boise State on Oct. 2 at Seattle University. The Boise State squad includes Salisbury’s younger sister, Avery, who was also a star at Beamer.
Avery Salisbury has played in three matches this season for Boise State. She has one shot and the Broncos are currently 1-3-0 on the season.
Salisbury, a freshman defender, was an all-state player during her time at Beamer.
More soccer grads from Federal Way
• Brittany Orr and Jenna Peterson: The Concordia University seniors return to the team for their final seasons this year.
The pair is coming off impressive seasons when both were named to the 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru Women’s Soccer All-America First-Team.
Orr, a Todd Beamer High School graduate, was also named NAIA first-team All-America and Peterson, a Decatur grad, had been named to the NAIA second-team.
Orr was also named to a 2010 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes list. She is majoring in business.
This year, Orr has started all eight matches and has two goals. Concordia is currently 4-3-1 on the season and ranked fifth in NAIA. Peterson has yet to play in a match and is slated to redshirt this season after having season-ending surgery on her ankle.
• Holland Crook: The 2010 Beamer grad is playing her sophomore season at Arizona State University. Crook, a midfielder, was an all-state selection three times in high school, as well as the state player of the year. This season, she has played in all eight games for the Sun Devils (4-4-0) and has two assists and 12 shots.
During the 2010 season, Crook played in all 20 games for the Sun Devils, starting 14. She finished with three assists and nine shots on goal. Crook recorded a pair of assists in ASU’s 2-1 win over Arizona.
For the first time since 2003, Arizona State made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The Sun Devils (9-8-3) lost to Cal State Irvine in the opening round.
• Megan Miller and Jessica Niewoehner: The Beamer grads are both playing for the Oregon State Beavers. Miller, a midfielder, is a junior and Niewoehner is a sophomore defender.
Miller has played in eight games for the Beavers, who are 6-2-1 on the season. She has three shots. Niewoehner has played in nine matches, starting two, and has one goal and six shots. Miller has started four matches for Oregon State.
For the second consecutive year, Oregon State made the NCAA Tournament field in 2010.
• Nicole Peterson: The 2008 Beamer graduate is currently playing her senior season at the University of Dayton. Peterson transferred from Seton Hall, where she played in 35 games as a freshman and sophomore. The defender has played in two matches for the 8-1-0 Flyers. Dayton won the Atlantic 10 Tournament championship last year and are ranked 24th in the nation. The Flyers also made the NCAA Tournament field in 2010.
• Mackenzie Hickel: The 2010 Beamer grad started two matches last season for the Boise State Broncos. The sophomore midfielder had two shots on goal. She has yet to play this season for Boise State.
• Kelsey Learned: The TJ grad is playing her junior year at the United States Naval Academy in Maryland. The midfielder has played in six games this year and has three shots. The Naval Academy is currently 6-3-1 overall.
• Molly Campbell: The Federal Way grad is playing her sophomore season at St. Martin’s University in Lacey. Campbell, a defender, has played in all six of St. Martin’s matches this season and has one shot. The Saints are 0-4-2 on the year.
• Amy Pate and Kayla Lipston: Pate, a TJ grad, is playing her senior season at Central Washington University and Lipston, a Decatur grad, is competing in her freshman year. Pate, a defender, started 16 matches for the Wildcats last year and had three goals and two assists. This year, she has started all five of Central’s matches. Lipston has played in one match for the 2-2-2 Wildcats.
• Taylor Maestas-Miller: The Beamer grad is playing her freshman season at Northwest Nazarene. The defender has yet to play in a game for the 3-3-0 Crusaders.
• Haley Ward: The Federal Way grad is playing her freshman season at Washignton and Lee University in Lexington, Va. Ward is a midfielder and has yet to play for the Generals (2-1-0).
• Nicolette Carnahan: The Thomas Jefferson grad is playing her freshman season at Whitman College in Walla Walla. Carnahan, a defender, has played in two games this season, starting one. Whitman is 3-3-0 overall.
• Jordan Crook: The Beamer grad is playing her senior season at Vassar College in New York. Crook has played in five games, starting one, this season. Crook, a midfielder, has five shots on goal.
