The Thomas Jefferson Raider baseball team moved into third place in the South Puget Sound League North Division by splitting a pair of games earlier this week.

The Raiders (4-2 in league, 8-4 overall) were beaten up by Tahoma on Tuesday, 8-5, and tallied five runs in the top of the seventh Wednesday to beat Federal Way, 9-8. Kentlake sits atop the division with a perfect 7-0 record, follwed by Tahoma (5-1).

The Raiders just couldn’t get anything going against Tahoma starting pitcher Chris Marangon on Tuesday. All five of Jefferson’s runs came in the bottom of the seventh inning. Derek Voigt connected on a two-run home run in the seventh and finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Spencer LeCompte and Johnny Palko were both 2-for-4.

Against Federal Way (2-4, 2-8), the Raiders pounded out nine hits, including two each from Kyle Ashton and Palko. The Eagles’ Nick Taniely finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs, a double and solo home run in the third inning.

Beamer won two games in a row Tuesday and Wednesday to move into a tie for third place in the SPSL South Division. The Titans (4-2, 6-4) downed Curtis on Tuesday, 8-7, with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Justin Lee had the game-winning double. Beamer also beat up Spanaway Lake, 16-3, on Wednesday. Carson Wolbert finished 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs.

Track and Field

The Federal Way Eagles cruised to the Bill Harris Invitational championship held Tuesday at Federal Way Memorial Stadium. The combined Eagles boys’ and girls’ team tallied 233 points to outdistance second-place Issaquah at the 15-team meet.

The Federal Way girls were led by junior Jacqie Evenson. Evenson won three events during the meet, including the long jump (16-5 3/4), the 110 hurdles (15.3) and the 300 hurdles (46.0). The Eagles also got a win from Jeleecia Roland in the high jump (5-4).

The Federal Way boys got titles from Andru Pulu in the shot put (49-3), Ian Tevis in the long jump (20-7) and triple jump (44-0 1/4), Miles VanZee in the pole vault (12-0), Greylin James in the high jump (5-10), Greggor Highberg in the 110 hurdles (14.7) and Robert Shelby in the 300 hurdles (40.4).

Decatur, which finished fourth overall, got a pair of wins from Ezra John Griffey in the 100 (10.6) and 200 (22.0).

Justin Helm won the 3,200 (9:58.3), Justin Englund won the 800 (2:00.7) and Jordyn Woodke won the triple jump (36-9 1/4).

Soccer

Jefferson (4-1-2) remained in second place by tying Kentlake and beating Kentridge. The Raiders played to a 2-2 tie Tuesday on goals from Chris Miller and D.J. DeWaele and TJ got goals from Chase Hanson, Carson Wright and Tyler Hanson during Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Kentridge.

Kentwood sits atop the division with a 6-1 record.

Fastpitch

Jefferson remained in a third-place tie with Tahoma after a pair of blowout wins Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Raiders (4-2) downed Tahoma on Tuesday, 11-2, by pounding out 16 hits. Christie Bruin, Erin Fujita and Shawntay Thong all had three hits.

TJ beat up Federal Way on Wednesday, 17-0, in five innings. Sophomore shortstop Hannah Kiyohara finished 3-for-5 with six RBIs and Thong was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Jessica Dickson picked up the complete-game wins on the mound in both games.

Beamer (1-8) picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday over Spanaway Lake, 12-8. The Titans got a home run and three RBIs from Briana Grosche. Lisa Stenberg finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Olivia Jones picked up the win on the mound.
