Prep wrap-up: Soccer, golf, tennis and swimming updates

Girls soccer

The Decatur Gators moved to 2-0-1 in the SPSL South Division with an impressive 4-0 win over the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles Thursday. The Gators’ only blemish is a 1-1 tie against Curtis (3-0-1).

Decatur got goals from Ashley Graves, Rachel Markey, Lauren O’Neal and Abby McFaul. Kayla Lipston picked up the shutout in the goal for the Gators.

Jefferson fell to 1-3-0 in the SPSL North with a 2-0 loss to Kentwood on Thursday.

Girls golf

The Decatur girls continued their impressive start to the season Thursday with an 89-62 victory over Jefferson at the Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club. The Gators were led by the twosome of Stacey Blunt and Amanda Beyke.

Blunt fired a 2-under par, 34 at Twin Lakes to earn medalist honors and Beyke followed with a 39. Both played at the Class 4A State Girls Golf Tournament in the spring.

Alexus Song shot the low round for the Raiders with a 40.

Emily Victor earned medalist honors with a 40 in a match between Auburn Riverside and Federal Way Thursday at the Tapps Island Golf Course. But it wasn’t enough for the Eagles. Auburn Riverside won the match, 84-47.

Tennis

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders (4-0) remained unbeaten on the season with a 5-0 sweep of the Decatur Gators Thursday. The Raiders are the only unbeaten team in the SPSL Central Division.

Against Decatur, TJ didn’t lose a single set. Joe Lee beat Abishek Marali at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Makoa Rosa beat Darrel Belvin at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1. Branden Muraki and Kyle Creek beat Harry Choi and Devin Murphy at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-4. Kainoa Rosa and James Lee beat Alex Eddy and Matt Crahan at No. 2, 6-2, 6-0. Brandyn Gomez and Michael Suh beat Josh Park and Ryan Westerdahl at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0.

Beamer moved to 3-1 on the season by downing Auburn Riverside, 3-2, Thursday afternoon.

The Titans’ victories came from Joseph Dela Cruz at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1, Ryan Wolf at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0, and Sean O’Brien and Chase Friederich at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-4.

Federal Way fell to 1-3 on the season with a 4-1 loss to Curtis Thursday. The Eagles’ lone win came from Chase McLaughlin at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4.

Girls swimming

The Decatur Gators got two individual wins from Kelsey Crowder, but it wasn’t enough Thursday during a dual meet against the Curtis Vikings. Curtis won the meet, 125-57.

Crowder won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:18.38 and the 100 backstroke in 1:04.59.
