Prep sports wrap: Raider gymnastics remains unbeaten with three-team sweep

The Thomas Jefferson gymnastics team remained unbeaten on the season by sweeping Beamer, Kentridge and North Thurston Wednesday night.

The Raiders (10-0) tallied a season-best 170.95 points to barely outdistance Beamer. The Titans finished with 167.8 points, followed by Kentridge (148.85) and North Thurston (138.75).

Beamer had the top-two finishers in the all-around competition Wednesday night. Sam West finished in first place, followed by Cassie Peterson. West also won the individual title on the uneven parallel bars with an 8.7.

Jefferson was led by Madi Keller, who finished third in the all-around and also won the balance beam (9.7) and floor exercise (9.3). Jefferson’s Monica Church won the vault with a 9.5.

Girls basketball

The Decatur Gators picked up their first South Puget Sound League victory Tuesday night over the Todd Beamer Titans, 43-31.

The Gators (1-6) got 10 points from Chastity Smith and nine points from Mik’kell Frier during the win. After falling behind 10-3 after the first quarter, Decatur outscored Beamer, 40-21 during the final three quarters.

Beamer (0-7) was led by the 10 points of Shyla Akins.

The second-ranked Federal Way Eagles (6-2) blew away the Kent-Meridian Royals Tuesday, 74-36. The Eagles had nine players score at least two points and were led by the 13 of Brittany Barrington. Dyesha Belhumeur chipped in 11 points and Talia Walton finished with 10 points.

Thomas Jefferson (3-5) picked up an 11-point win over Kentridge on Tuesday, 53-42. The Raiders got 22 points from Unique Taufa’asau and 11 from Hannah Kiyohara.
