PREP SPORTS WRAP: Federal Way, TJ soccer remain on top of divisions; Decatur baseball loses to No. 1 Lions

But it wasn’t as easy as it looked like it was going to be.

The unbeaten Eagles (6-0-0) jumped all over the Vikings (3-2-2) and bolted out to a 4-0 lead on goals from Handson Pelogi, Odasson Pelogi, Felipe Hernandez and Edwin Ortiz.

However, the Vikings tallied three goals in a four-minute span to tighten the match. But Federal Way held on in the end.

The Eagles now lead the SPSL South by four points over second-place Beamer (4-1-2).

Jefferson — The Raiders (6-0-0 in the SPSL North) remained unbeaten on the season with a 4-0 win over Kentlake Friday. Jefferson got a pair of goals from Isidro Prado-Huerta and single goals from Luis Alvaro Osornio and Glenn Carpenter. McKay Owsley earned the shutout in goal for the Raiders.

Beamer — The Titans (4-1-2) and Emerald Ridge Jaguars finished in a  0-0 tie Friday in SPSL South action. Jesse Fite earned the shutout for Beamer.

Baseball

Decatur — The Gators’ seven-game winning streak came to an end Friday afternoon with a 7-5 loss to the No. 1-ranked Auburn Mountainview Lions.

The Lions took a 5-1 lead with one run in the first, three in the second and one in the fifth. Decatur fought back to tie the game with one run in the fifth and three in the sixth, thanks to a home run by Derik Bontempo.

But Auburn Mountainview (8-1 overall, 4-1 SPSL 3A) scored two in the top of the seventh to finalize the score.

Decatur (7-3 overall, 4-1 SPSL 3A) finished with just three hits. Bontempo was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Isaiah Hatch took the loss on the mound for the Gators.

Beamer — The Titans (4-5 overall, 3-3 SPSL South) lost a tough game to the second-ranked Puyallup Vikings Friday, 4-3.

Beamer took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Vikings battled back with four runs to take a 4-1 lead. The Titans tallied single runs in the sixth and seventh to finalize the score.

Kepa Sharpe finished 2 for 3 with a solo home run and Ben Arata was 2 for 3 with an RBI. J.J. Asinas took the loss on the mound for Beamer.

Jefferson — The Raiders (3-5 overall, 1-5 SPSL North) lost a heart-breaker to the defending state champion Kentwood Conquerors Friday, 2-1.

Nathan Baughman scored the only run for TJ, knocked in by Hunter Henry.

Federal Way — The Eagles (1-7 overall, 0-5 SPSL South) lost to the Spanaway Lake Sentinels Friday, 9-7. Derek Klaas finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run. He also threw six innings on the mound.

Softball

Beamer — The Titans (7-1 overall, 5-0 SPSL South) continued their early-season success with a 3-2 win over the Puyallup Vikings Friday.

Beamer finished with just three hits, but it was enough to beat the Vikings. Kelsey McDonnell finished 1 for 3 with a run and RBI.

Federal Way — The Eagles were beaten Friday by Spanaway Lake, 14-3, in five innings. The Sentinels scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning.
