No South Puget Sound League South Division championship for the Federal Way girls soccer team.
The Eagles (11-3-2) ended up in second place in the South Division behind the Curtis Vikings after tying with the Todd Beamer Titans, 2-2, in both teams’ regular-season finale Thursday afternoon. The tie earned Beamer (8-5-3) the fifth seed from the South Division with the tie.
Thursday, Federal Way jumped on top in the 10th minute on a goal from Gabriela Pelogi on a pass from Hannah Kimura. The game stayed 1-0 until after halftime.
That’s when Beamer all-everything freshman Ameera Hussen tallied back-to-back goals to put the Titans up 2-1. Hussen took a pass from Kacia Rogalla in the 43rd minute and a pass from Maddy Colson in the 56th.
Federal Way’s Audrey Shin tied the game in the 70th minute on an unassisted goal.
The Eagles and Titans now focus their attention to the postseason. Federal Way will play the fourth-place team from the Narrows League at 7 p.m. at Curtis High School on Nov. 7 at the 2013 Bi-District 3/4 Girls Soccer Tournament in a loser-out contest. The winner will play a loser-out, winner-to-state game at 2 p.m. at Art Crate Stadium on Nov. 9.
As the fifth seed from the SPSL South, Beamer will have to win three loser-out games in a row to qualify for the Class 4A Girls Soccer State Tournament. The Titans will play Auburn Riverside, the fifth seed from the SPSL North, Tuesday at Sparks Stadium.
The Beamer-Auburn Riverside winner will then travel to Vancouver to face the second-place team from the Greater St. Helen’s League at 5:30 p.m. at McKenzie Stadium on Nov. 7 in another loser-out contest.
Jefferson will also play at the district tournament as the SPSL North’s fourth seed. The Raiders will take on the second seed from the Narrows League at 5 p.m. at Mount Tahoma High School on Nov. 7 in a loser-out game. The winner will advance into a winner-to-state, loser-out game on Nov. 9 at Art Crate Stadium.
Football
The Todd Beamer Titans football team put a complete game together and blew away the Bethel Braves Thursday, 36-17, at Art Crate Stadium.
The Titans (3-6) got three touchdowns from Brody Martinez, including a 93-yard kickoff return in the first quarter. Martinez, a running back, also scored on a 41-yard run in the first quarter and a 35-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Beamer’s other scores came on a 71-yard touchdown pass from Taylor Davis to Anthony Allen and a Davis 1-yard run. Both of Bethel’s touchdowns came in the fourth quarter.
