PREP SPORTS WRAP: Decatur baseball sweeps Lakes on back-to-back days; FW soccer still unbeaten

The Decatur baseball team won back-to-back games over the Lakes Lancers Tuesday and Wednesday to remain on top of the South Puget Sound League 3A Division.

The Decatur baseball team won back-to-back games over the Lakes Lancers Tuesday and Wednesday to remain on top of the South Puget Sound League 3A Division.

The Gators (9-3 overall, 6-1 SPSL 3A) beat the Lancers, 5-2, Tuesday and blew out Lakes the next day, 20-7, in five innings.

On Wednesday, Decatur got another huge offensive day from Derik Bontempo. The senior finished 4 for 5 with three runs and two RBIs. Senior Jim Sullivan was 4 for 4 with two runs, four RBIs and a double. Taylor Havilcek and Janson Junk also knocked in three runs each for the Gators. Chris Carns got the win on the mound.

On Tuesday, Bontempo finished 2 for 2 with two runs, two RBIs and a double. Kyle Robbins was also 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a double. Chris Grimstad picked up the win on the mound by throwing two innings.

Federal Way — The Eagles lost in extra-innings Wednesday to the Bethel Braves, 4-3. Bethel tallied a run in the bottom of the eighth to win.

Federal Way (1-8 overall, 0-6 SPSL South) tallied only five hits and Derek Klaas had a double.

Soccer

Federal Way — The Eagles remained unbeaten on the season with a 4-0 win over the Rogers Rams Wednesday. Federal Way (8-0-0) got a hat trick from Edwin Ortiz.

Ortiz helped the Eagles take a 2-0 lead at halftime with goals in the 32nd and 37th minutes. Garrett Brewer assisted on the first and Odasson Pelogi got the assist on the second goal.

Ortiz’s third goal came in the 53rd minute on another pass from Brewer. Alex Lewis scored in the 78th minute on a pass from Luis Sanchez. Koby Craig picked up the shutout in goal for Federal Way.

Decatur — The Gators were shut out by Bonney Lake Wednesday, 3-0. All three of the Panthers’ goals came in the second half.

Softball

Federal Way — The Eagles were beaten up by the Bethel Braves, 23-0, in four innings Wednesday. The Braves scored 10 runs in the first inning and eight in the third. Federal Way (2-7 overall, 0-6 SPSL South) had one hit during the game.

Decatur — The Gators (0-8 overall) remained winless on the season with a 10-0 loss to Bonney Lake Wednesday in six innings.

Bonney Lake scored three runs each in the second, fourth and sixth innings. Decatur had only one hit and made five errors in the field.
