MLS: Lamar Neagle earns another spot on Team of the Week

Lamar Neagle has been a solid and consistent contributor to the rise of the Sounders FC in recent months and on Tuesday, he was named to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week for the third time in the last five weeks.

Lamar Neagle has been a solid and consistent contributor to the rise of the Sounders FC in recent months and on Tuesday, he was named to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week for the third time in the last five weeks.

Neagle, a Thomas Jefferson High School graduate, posted one goal and one assist, bringing his season totals to four goals and three assists, to lift the Sounders to a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in front of 53,679 at CenturyLink Field on Saturday. He was the lone representative for Seattle on the Team of the Week.

He is joined on the Team of the Week by goalkeeper Bill Hamid (DC United); defenders Chris Tierney (New England Revolution), Stephen McCarthy (New England Revolution) and Sheanon Williams (Philadelphia Union); midfielders Diego Valeri (Portland Timbers), Brian Carroll (Philadelphia Union), Alex (Chicago Fire) and Javier Morales (Real Salt Lake); and forwards Camilo Sanvezzo (Vancouver Whitecaps FC) and Olmes Garcia (Real Salt Lake).

DeAndre Yedlin and Obafemi Martins were named honorable mention for the week.

The Sounders will be out of action this weekend, but will return to the field on June 22 against Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium.

This is Neagle’s third stint with the Sounders in the team’s five-year history.

After TJ, Neagle played at  UNLV before inking with the Sounders as an undrafted free agent in June of 2009. But he didn’t stick with the team in training camp the following year and instead played with the Charleston Battery in the USL second division. There, he earned Most Valuable Player honors with 12 goals in 19 matches, leading the Battery to the USL-2 title.

He went from there to Finland, where he played five matches with Mariehamn, netting two goals before a return invite to join the Sounders in training camp brought him back to Seattle.

In his second stint with Seattle, he enjoyed a breakout season, finishing with six goals and two assists in 24 matches. Neagle opened camp again with the Sounders in 2012, but was traded along with Mike Fucito to the Impact for Eddie Johnson.

In Montreal, Neagle finished with two goals and two assists before being traded back to Seattle in the offseason for an international roster slot.
