Marine Hills wins Seattle Summer Swim League All-City title

The Marlins followed up their first-ever unbeaten regular season in the Seattle Summer Swim League (SSSL) by dominating the All-City Meet championship Tuesday at the Klahaya Swim and Tennis Club in the Edmonds area. It was also Marine Hills' first-ever All-City title.

It was a season of firsts for the Marine Hills swim team.

The Marlins followed up their first-ever unbeaten regular season in the Seattle Summer Swim League (SSSL) by dominating the All-City Meet championship Tuesday at the Klahaya Swim and Tennis Club in the Edmonds area. It was also Marine Hills’ first-ever All-City title.

Marine Hills won a total of 20 individual events Tuesday and set six separate SSSL all-time records.

The combined team of boys and girls ages totaled 316.5 points to outdistance a total of 16 summer swim clubs. Aquaclub, from Kenmore, finished up in second with 274. The Twin Lakes Swim Club ended up in 13th place with 74 total points.

Marine Hills’ Kenna Ramey and Mathias Oh both set a pair of individual SSSL records during the meet. Ramey’s record-breaking swims came in the girls 13-14 50-yard freestyle (24.43) and 50-yard butterfly (26.40). Oh’s two records came in the boys 13-14 50-yard butterfly (23.97) and 100-yard free (48.68).

Marine Hills’ two other record swims came from Thomas Anderson in the 13-14 boys 50-yard backstroke (25.82) and the boys 13-14 200 medley relay team of Anderson, Oh, Robert Hughes and Curtis Condotta (1:49.34).

Other individual victories came from Thomas Anderson in the 13-14 50 free (23.14), Kaycee Simpson in the girls 11-12 100 individual medley (1:06.48) and 50 backstroke (30.59), Mathias Oh in the boys 13-14 100 individual medley (55.77), Courtney Hughes in the girls 9-10 50 backstroke (34.05), Casey Nguyen in the boys 11-12 50 back (30.78), Shianne Lindh in the girls 9-10 50 breaststroke (36.60), Robert Hughes in the boys 13-14 50 breaststroke (30.70) and Kaia Barth in the girls 15-18 50 butterfly (26.43).

Marine Hills also got relay wins from Breanna Ross, Courtney Hughes, Shianne Lindh and Taylor Kabacy in the girls 9-10 200 free relay (2:03.59) and 100 medley relay (1:04.9), Kaia Barth, Kayla Ramey, Eva Barth and Klara Oh in the girls 15-18 200 free relay (1:42.57), Oh, Kaia Barth, Eva Barth and Leah Freeborn in the girls 15-18 200 medley relay (1:54.83), and Casey Nguyen, Jason Nguyen, Micah Oh and Cooper Berry in the boys 11-12 200 medley relay (2:05.35).

Marine Hills is coached by Doug Djang, who is assisted by Tommy Cunningham, Jon Hiett and Scott Rice.

Twin Lakes won three individual championships at the All-City Meet Tuesday and a pair came from 12-year-old Ian Olufson. Olufson easily won the boys 11-12 100-yard individual medley in 1:03.69 and the 50-yard freestyle in 25.59. Twin Lakes’ other win came from Sam Hoag in the boys 11-12 50 breast (34.26).
