Little League action from Federal Way: Tournament updates

The Federal Way National Little League all-star team finished in third place at the District 10 Tournament. Federal Way lost to Auburn Little League in the consolation bracket championship game Friday night at the 11- and 12-year-old District 10 Tournament at Sunset Park in Auburn.

National claimed a berth in the consolation bracket championship game by beating Soundview Little League on Thursday. Kent Little League knocked Federal Way National into the consolation bracket Wednesday in the semifinals.

Kent downed Auburn in the District 10 championship game Saturday to claim a berth into the Washington State Little League Tournament.

The loss to Kent came a day after Federal Way National beat Auburn Little League to earn a berth into the semifinals.

Federal Way downed Bonney Lake/Sumner Little League in their tournament opener July 11 at Sunset Park, 3-1, and blew away Fife/Milton/Edgewood Sunday, 13-0.

The 2009 District 10 Little League All Star Tournament included 11 teams from Federal Way, Kent, Enumclaw, Bonney Lake, Renton, Maple Valley, Puyallup and Northeast Tacoma.

The tournament ultimately culminates at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., in August. The District 10 champion will play at the Washington State Little League Tournament, which includes the winners of the 13 districts from around the state. The state tournament kicks off July 25 at Art Mikelsen Fields in Port Orchard.

The Federal Way National team included Max Dalrymple, Dax Wallat, Markus Montelongo, Lawyer Braun, Garrett Westberg, Zachary Nunez, Taylor Davis, Kepa Sharpe, Jon Charbonneau, Scott Sunitsch and Billy Fitzpatrick. The team is coached by Brian Westberg and Tom Wallat.

Steel Lake Little League was knocked out of the double-elimination tournament Thursday night by Auburn, ending their season.

Steel Lake Little League won their opening-round game at the District 10 Tournament over Soundview on July 11 to advance into the second-round meeting against Kent Little League. Kent dropped Steel Lake into the consolation bracket with an 11-7 win.

Steel Lake then knocked Federal Way American Little League out of the tournament with a win Monday night to set up the loser-out meeting with Auburn Little League on Thursday.

The Steel Lake Little League All-Star Team included Bryce Blanchard, Brandon Bowman, TJ Byrne, JC Cater, Alec Chanes, Tristan Coppinger, Danny Jones, Travis Layden, Jonathan Stewart, Caleb Wallen, Dashay Ware and Kendan Worley. The team is coached by Nate Bowman and Doug Coppinger.
