Holiday season boys basketball power rankings

See how local basketball teams from South King County compare to one another.

During this break in athletics for the holiday season, it’s time to analyze how the local teams rank against one another so far. The rankings are initially based on data of overall records, league records, common opponents, points per game, points allowed and margin of victory.

Federal Way Eagles (4-0)

Best win: Kent-Meridian 100-60

The Eagles have been the best team in the NPSL all season. FW has the highest margin of victory (52.3 points) and is the only undefeated team.

Auburn Trojans (5-1)

Best win: North Kitsap 83-62

Auburn took a tough loss on a buzzer beater from Tahoma for their only loss on the year. But outplayed the Bears for the majority of the game, Auburn is still a huge player to make a run at the 3A championship again.

Tahoma Bears (4-2)

Best win: @ Auburn 61-60

Even though Tahoma beat the team in front of them, they have one more loss than the Trojans. If Auburn slips up there is no problem with them being ranked higher than Auburn.

Kentridge Chargers (5-2)

Best win: Auburn Mountainview 76-58

After a loss to Auburn to open the season, the Chargers have won three in a row. They convincingly beat Auburn Mountainview on Dec. 12 by 18.

Kent-Meridian Royals (4-1)

Best win: Lindbergh 66-54

The Royals have now won three out of four, and put up a season high in points against Kennedy. It seems like KM is trending in the right direction.

Auburn Mountainview Lions (3-1)

Best win: Kentwood 77-59

With a surprising upset of Kentwood on the first day of the season for the Lions boosted their stock in the NPSL. But Mountainview suffered a tough loss to Kentridge Dec. 13, and has a tough upcoming schedule.

Kentwood Conquerors (2-1)

Best win: Todd Beamer 56-55

Kentwood took a loss on the chin to open up their 2022-23 season against Auburn Mountainview. But a one point victory over Todd Beamer and a win over Riverside have put KW back on track.

Todd Beamer Titans (5-2)

Best Win: Mount Rainier 69-47

Beamer outside of their Federal Way loss have played good basketball all year. I don’t want to punish them for playing lots of games compared to others, but losing to Kentwood leaves them at eight.

Mount Rainier Rams (2-4)

Best win: Thomas Jefferson 55-32

Mount Rainier has had a tough schedule to start the season, they have a very difficult January schedule as well.

Auburn Riverside Ravens (1-5)

Best win: Kennedy Catholic 62-55

The Ravens have struggled to score, except the game against Kennedy. A well played game and worthy of the number 10 spot.

Kennedy Catholic Lancers (1-4)

Best win: Kentlake 62-47

Kennedy has had a difficult start to the season, including a loss to Federal Way before Christmas break.. But have a shot at a second league win when they take on TJ Jan 5.

Kentlake Falcons (1-2)

Best win: Decatur 75-57

In their win over the Gators the Falcons scored the most points since June 1st, 2020. Their losses this season have come against Kennedy and Tahoma this season.

Decatur Gators (0-4)

Best win: N/A

Despite being winless the Gators are averaging 59 points per game, which is more than Kennedy, Kentlake, Auburn Riverside. But have yet to win this season.

Thomas Jefferson Raiders (0-3)

Best win: N/A

The Raiders are averaging 32 points per game. Which is the lowest in the league. The Raiders are looking for their first win since Jan. 15 of this year.
