The Todd Beamer Titans clinched the second seed in the South Puget Sound League South Division Thursday by playing rival Decatur to a 0-0 tie at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
Thursday’s game was a huge one for both teams. If Decatur had won, it would have secured the South’s second seed. But with the tie, the Gators (10-2-4) will be the division’s third seed into Wednesday’s SPSL Tournament. Thursday’s tie moved Beamer to 11-2-3 on the season. Emerald Ridge won the SPSL South with a perfect 16-0-0 record.
Beamer will take on the Kentwood Conquerors at 8 p.m. at Federal Way Memorial Stadium Wednesday in a battle between the second-place teams from the North and South divisions. The winner will earn the SPSL’s third seed into the West Central District Tournament and the loser will be the fourth seed.
Decatur will take on Kentlake at 6 p.m. at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup Wednesday. The winner will be the league’s fifth seed and the loser will get the sixth.
The loser-out West Central District Tournament is set for Nov. 7 at Art Crate Field, Lincoln Bowl and Federal Way Memorial Stadium. It will feature seven teams from the SPSL and five from the Narrows Leagues with six berths into the state playoffs on the line.
Federal Way High School wasn’t as lucky as Beamer and Decatur. The Eagles missed out on the postseason with a 1-0 loss to the Tahoma Bears Thursday. With a win or tie, Federal Way would have played another game.
Instead, the Eagles finished in fifth place in the SPSL North with a 7-6-3 record. Tahoma won the North Division title with a 13-1-2 record.
The Bears tallied the only score of the match in the 72nd minute on a goal from Kaylee Osterman.
