Girls basketball: Federal Way upends Jefferson and Kentlake

The seventh-ranked Federal Way Eagles got 21 points from sophomore TyShana Burgess and pulled away in the fourth quarter Thursday night in a big win over Thomas Jefferson, 64-55. The Eagles followed Saturday night with a solid victory over Kentlake, 68-53.

The wins moved the Eagles to 10-3 in the South Puget Sound League North Division and into a tie with Auburn Riverside for second place behind unbeaten Kentwood. The loss dropped Jefferson to 8-6 in league play and leaves them in a tie for fourth place.

The Eagles grabbed a 16-12 lead after the opening quarter, but the Raiders fought back to cut the Federal Way advantage to 27-24 at halftime.

Jefferson got 25 points from junior Hannah Kiyohara and 13 from senior Stacy Albrecht. The Eagles also got 14 points from Brittany Barrington and 12 from Talia Walton.

Against Kentlake, the Eagles outscored the Falcons, 45-28, in the second and third quarters after trailing 11-7 after the first quarter. The Eagles got 16 points from Barrington, 15 from Walton and 14 from TyShana Burgess.

at Graham-Kapowsin 46, Decatur 36

The Gators (7-7, 7-10) couldn’t keep up with the unbeaten Eagles Saturday night. Decatur remained in fifth place in the South Division, a half-game up on Bethel. The Gators were led by the eight points of Kayla Lipston. It was Decatur’s second loss in a row.

Puyallup 53, at Beamer 33

The Titans (3-10. 3-13) led 11-8 after the first quarter Saturday night. The Titans got 10 points from freshman Meghan Graf and seven from Natasha Fualaau.

Bethel 37, at Decatur 34

The Gators lost a big game Thursday night to the Braves. Decatur led 18-14 at halftime, but were outscored, 11-4, in the third quarter. Decatur was led by the 11 points of Tenea Holcomb and got eight from Yonnie Coleman.

Auburn Riverside 63, Jefferson 27

The Raiders were blown away by the Ravens Saturday night and fell into a fourth-place tie with Kentlake. The defending, two-time Class 3A champions led 55-14 after the third quarter. The Raiders got 16 points from Stacy Albrecht and seven from Ariel Holman.
