GIRLS BASKETBALL: Beamer continues march toward first-ever postseason berth; FW beats Curtis by 62 points

The Todd Beamer Titans continued their impressive roll through the South Puget Sound League South Division with an overtime victory at Graham-Kapowsin Thursday night.

The Titans outscored the Eagles, 12-5, during the four-minute overtime session to win the game, 57-50, and climb closer to the program’s first-ever postseason appearance. Beamer (10-6 overall, 7-5 SPSL South) currently sits a half game up on Bethel (7-6) and Spanaway Lake (7-6) in fourth place. The top-five finishers advance to the playoffs.

The Titans have three games remaining against Rogers (9-3), Spanaway Lake and top-ranked Federal Way (12-0).

Against Graham-Kapowsin, the Titans’ big three of Shyla Akins, Meghan Graf and Megan Huff tallied 53 of Beamer’s 57 points. Akins, who is averaging 16.2 points a game, finished with 21, Graf added 18 points and Huff chipped in 14.

Thursday’s game was back and forth all night. The Titans led 25-18 at halftime, but the Eagles fought back to tie the game at 35-35 entering the fourth.

Federal Way 72, at Curtis 10 — The top-ranked Eagles took apart an overmatched Curtis team Thursday night in University Place.

Federal Way (15-1, 12-0) outscored the Vikings, 22-9, in the first quarter and it got worse from there. University of Washington-bound forward Talia Walton finished with 25 points and Dyesha Bellhumeur added 12 for the Eagles.
