The University of Washington women’s cross country team brought home a national championship from Terre Haute, Ind. Monday afternoon and Thomas Jefferson graduate Kenna Patrick had a part in the title.

Although Patrick didn’t run at the national championship meet, she trained every bit as hard as the other athletes on the team, which some are calling one of the best in NCAA history.

Patrick, who won the 2006 Class 4A individual state championship while at TJ, ran at every meet during the Huskies’ season, except for nationals. Patrick finished 37th overall at the 2008 West Regional Championships held in Palo Alto, Calif. on Nov. 15 and was 23rd at the Pac-10 Championships on Halloween. But the Huskies were just too good for Patrick to crack the seven-girl lineup used at the national championships.

To illustrate just how good the Washington women’s cross country team was, they swept the first six spots at the Pac-10 Championships.

Patrick started her collegiate career at the University of Puget Sound, where she ran as a freshman, before transferring to Washington last year.
