Federal Way Little League all stars start tournament run

It’s that time of year again.

It’s time for the Little Leaguers of Federal Way to take center stage at postseason all-star baseball tournaments around South King County.

The marquee event kicks off July 11 at Sunset Park in Auburn. The 2009 District 10 Little League All Star Tournament for 11- and 12-year-old boys and girls includes all 11 teams from Federal Way, Kent, Enumclaw, Bonney Lake, Renton, Maple Valley, Puyallup and Northeast Tacoma. The tournament ultimately culminates at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., in August.

Steel Lake, Federal Way American and Federal Way National Little Leagues will be vying for the District 10 championship. Steel Lake will take on Soundview Little League at 6 p.m. in their opening-round matchup.

Federal Way American opens up against Kent and Federal Way National plays thair first game against Bonney Lake/Sumner.

All three games are scheduled for July 11 in Auburn.

The Steel Lake Little League All-Star Team includes Bryce Blanchard, Brandon Bowman, TJ Byrne, JC Cater, Alec Chanes, Tristan Coppinger, Danny Jones, Travis Layden, Jonathan Stewart, Caleb Wallen, Dashay Ware and Kendan Worley. The team is coached by Nate Bowman and Doug Coppinger.

The Federal Way National team includes Max Dalrymple, Dax Wallat, Markus Montelongo, Lawyer Braun, Garrett Westberg, Zachary Nunez, Taylor Davis, Kepa Sharpe, Jon Charbonneau, Scott Sunitsch and Billy Fitzpatrick. The team is coached by Brian Westberg and Tom Wallat.

Federal Way American’s roster includes Bridger Armstrong, Jeffrey Cochran, PJ Covello, Czarelle Galapon, D’jimon Jones, Ben Koler, Jocolby Nokes, Donny Phelps, Corey Saeda, JP Wilson, Keegan Woods and Jake Zwaller. The team is coached by Lance Koler, Mike Cochran and John Nokes.

Other tournament action:

• The district 10- and 11-year-old all-star tournament is currently running at the Federal Way National Little League Complex. The championship game will be Saturday.

Both Steel Lake and Federal Way National lost their tournament openers on Saturday. Steel Lake fought back to win a loser-out game Sunday over Tahoma and played again last night (after press time) in another loser-out game.

The Steel Lake all-star team includes Ethan Phelps, James Fitch, Jalen Prather, Mattew Roybal, Garret SanLuis, Alex Sonnenfeld, Gabe Togia, Brycen Allen, Christian Jones, Michael Ziccarelli and Mason DeLaCruz. The team is coached by Joey Sonnenfeld and Ken Allen.

Federal Way National dropped their first two games of the tournament to Bonney Lake-Sumner and Tahoma. The team included Andrew Ellingson, Tanner Knapp, Kaden Jacobs, JJ Asinas, Jacob Barden, Mitchell Grant, Jacob Perdue, Brady Robic, Ben Johnson, Nick Hall and Brandon Fauver.

Federal Way American didn’t have a team in the tournament.

• The District 10 9- and 10-year-old All Star Tournament concluded Saturday at the Federal Way National Little League Complex. Kent won the title with a win over Auburn in the championship game.

The Federal Way National team won their opening-round game over Soundview before losing to Auburn in the semifinals. National then dropped their loser’s bracket game to Bonney Lake-Sumner on Thursday and were eliminated. The team included Nathan Adams, Luke Gregg, Tiger Goodface, Quinn Hanson, Kyle Heffernan, Tyler Houston, Conner Keene, Dylan Lydell, JV Magruder, Brody Mensching, Matthew Montelongo, Mason Pirio and Austin Stafford.

Steel Lake dropped their first two games of the tournament to Kent and Federal Way American.

The Steel Lake team included Hunter Bowman, Bodan McGraw, Derek Keyes, Austin Pauls, Blake Null, Bailey Griffith, Wes Nixon, Jayshayn Ware, Justin Cater, Kale Bartroff, Keanan Fraser, Tug Carroll and Kyle Williams. The team is coached by Andy Null, Justin Compton and Jason Cretti.

After dropping their opening-round game to South Hill, Federal Way American fought through the loser’s bracket, beating Steel Lake, South Hill and Soundview. But American was knocked out of the tournament by Auburn Thursday.

The team included Dawson Bakker, Evan Brewer, Jonathan Grimstad, Alex LamBeau, Tyler Praven, Chris Richards, Taylor Spencer, Matthew Sponsari, Luke Tedrick, Calvin Turchin, Aaron Umland and Javon Vongsaveng. The team was coached by Bryan Bakker, Mike Anderson and Eric LamBeau.

• The District 10 Junior Little League (13-14) Tournament starts Saturday at Brannon Park in Auburn. The six-team tournament will include a combined Federal Way National and American team, along with a combined team from Steel Lake and Soundview Little League.

The Federal Way American/National team includes JD Cochran, Evan Elliot, Brendan Harrelson, Mark Haver, Zach Hobbs, Jeffrey Lusink, Sam Potts, Kyle Robbins, Nate Smith, Mitch Stewart, Jim Sullivan and Lyle Tokioka. The team is coached by Bob Clinton, Randy Elliot and Jerry Stewart.

The Steel Lake/Soundview team includes Dalton Palmer, Mark Fitzgerald, Manny Ortiz, Trevor Gradel, Jacob Moreno, Jacob Tabafunda, Dylan Rogers, Brandon Yeun, Spencer Balmer-Logan, Riley Hughes and Michael Van Orden. The team is coached by Dan Fitzgerald.

• The District 10 Senior Little League Tournament kicks off Monday at Brannon Park in Auburn.

The tournament includes four teams from Kent, South Hill, Federal Way American and a combined team from Steel Lake and Soundview.

The Steel Lake/Soundview team includes Ryan Borden, Markus Buckhouse, Bryce Doyea, Sam Dzingle, Reece Fobes, Ben Knapp, Chris McKinnon, Brett Oyer, Kevin Oyer, Ramiro Ponce, Reece SanLuis, Kyle Westgard, Ryan Wolfe, Chaz Woo and Tyler Zumwalt. The team is coached by Brian Berkley.
