Opening round, Wednesday

9 a.m.: Eastlake vs. Auburn Riverside

10:30 a.m.: South Kitsap vs. Moses Lake

Noon: Bellarmine Prep vs. Snohomish

2 p.m.: Garfield vs. Newport

3:30 p.m.: Mt. Tahoma vs. Pasco

5 p.m.: Kamiak vs. Kentwood

7 p.m.: Jackson vs. Issaquah

The Favorites

Kentwood (24-1)

The Conquerors’ loss to Auburn Riverside in the West Central District championship game is a little misleading. Kentwood played without their best player, Lindsey Moore, who sat out with a leg injury. The University of Nebraska-bound guard might be the best all-around player in the state. The Conks cruised to the SPSL North championship with a perfect record and are still the favorite to win the 4A title if Moore is healthy. Kentwood will play Kamiak in the first round at 5 p.m today.

Lewis & Clark (25-2)

They might not be as good as they have been in the past, but being the three-time defending Class 4A champs is nothing to sneeze at. Lewis & Clark won their first 21 games of the season before dropping two of their final six games. The Tigers feature Jeneva Anderson, who is headed to the University of Washington next season.

Pasco (25-0)

The Bulldogs enter the tournament as the No. 1-ranked team in the state after sweeping through the rugged Eastern Washington district tournament. Pasco is led by junior Danielle Walter, who was the most valuable player of the Eastern regional after a 19-point, five-rebound, seven-assist game against Moses Lake in the championship game. Pasco beat Moses Lake in the district championship game. It was the Bulldogs’ fourth win over Moses Lake this season.

The Second Tier

Auburn Riverside (20-6)

The Ravens proved they were a team to reckon with by beating previously-unbeaten Kentwood in the West Central District final Saturday night. Auburn Riverside has won the last two Class 3A state championships and seem to be firing on all cylinders after struggling a little bit during the regular season, including two losses to Federal Way. The Ravens are led Mercedes Wetmore (14.7 points a game), Kat Cooper (11.8) and Amanda Thomson (10.7). Auburn Riverside will play Eastlake in the tournament opener at 9 a.m. today.

Moses Lake (20-6)

Four of the Chiefs six losses this season came against unbeaten Pasco. Moses Lake is led by the play of Carly Noyes. The 6-foot-5 senior is headed to Washington State in the fall and is the all-time leader in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots at Moses Lake. She averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks as a junior. Moses Lake will play South Kitsap in their opener at 10:30 a.m. today and could meet Auburn Riverside in the second round Friday.

Snohomish (21-2)

The Panthers breezed through the Wesco League with a perfect 16-0 record. Their two losses came early against Auburn Riverside and Oregon’s Southridge. Since then, the Panthers have won 16 games in a row. They are led by 6-foot-1 senior Katie Benson, who is averaging 17 points a game. Snohomish opens today at noon against Bellarmine Prep.

Could Surpise

Federal Way (21-5)

The Eagles got a horrendous draw after finishing third at the West Central District Tournament. Federal Way will take on three-time defending champion Lewis & Clark (Spokane) in the opening round tonight at 8:30 p.m. The Eagles finished second in the rugged SPSL North Division and are led by three double-digit scorers in sophomore TyShana Burgess (14.9 points), sophomore Brittany Barrington (11.2) and senior Jacqie Evenson (10.2).

Bellarmine Prep (21-4)

The Narrows League champions also didn’t get any favors at the Class 4A draw Sunday in Renton. The Lions will take on No. 4-ranked Snohomish in their opener. Bellarmine is led by Mechela Barnes and Simmone Potts.

Issaquah (17-6)

The Eagles rolled to the Kingco League title with a 10-point win over Eastlake in the title game. Issaquah uses defense to win games and have three players averaging in double figures in Erin Nichol (11.7), Alexa Smith (11.5) and Maddey Pflaumer (10.1). The Eagles take on Jackson in their opener at 7 p.m. tonight.
