Big Sky Conference honors Federal Way native

Portland State’s Kelly Miller was named Big Sky Conference co-Golfer of the Week after the finest performance of her career. Miller set three personal records at the Oregon State Invitational this week to earn the honor.

A Federal Way native, Miller shares the honor with Alexa Schendelman of Montana, who also shot 220. Miller tied for fifth at the OSU Invitational shooting 76-74-70=220. Miller’s fifth-place finish, final round 70 (tied) and tournament total of 220 were all career bests.

In addition, Miller had seven birdies for the tournament and led all players in par-four scoring (3.90).

Her performance led the Vikings to a fourth-place team finish at the event.

Miller led the team in scoring for the second time in her career. She also led the team in its last competitive tournament of 2013-14 at the NCAA West Regional. She ranks 11th all-time in rounds played at Portland State with 82.

This is the first Big Sky Player of the Week honor in Miller’s career.

Portland State returns to competition next week at the WSU Cougar Cup. The tournament runs Sept. 22-23 at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman.
