Beamer stays undefeated on soccer field | Prep sports wrap-up

The Todd Beamer Titans girls soccer picked up a come-from-behind win Thursday over the Emerald Ridge Jaguars, 2-1. The Titans moved to 2-0-0 with the victory and are undefeated in the South Puget Sound League South Division.

Emerald Ridge’s Audrey Sullivan tallied an unassisted goal in the 29th minute to take a 1-0 lead over last year’s SPSL South Division champions at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

But the Titans rolled back on a goal from Breanna Straus nine minutes later and a second-half goal from junior Holland Crook in the 55th minute.

Beamer is currently the second-ranked team in Class 4A behind Eastlake High School. The Titans lost to Eastlake in the state championship game last year on penalty kicks.

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders (1-0-1) garnered their first SPSL North win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Auburn on Thursday. The only goal of the game came from Lauren Jerde on a pass from Hayley Albrecht in the closing minutes of the game. Nicole Price picked up the shutout in the goal for the Raiders.

Girls swimming

The Todd Beamer Titans took early-season control of the South Puget Sound League South Division with a huge 94-92 win over the Curtis Vikings. The two teams finished atop the South Division last season with identical 6-1 records.

The Titans walked away with the victory Thursday by winning the final event of the night in state-qualifying time. Beamer won the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:48.51. The Titans actually won every swimming event during the dual meet. Curtis’ only individual event victory came in diving.

Beamer’s Jessica Soria, Eryn Murphy and Rachel Kim all won two events. Soria won the 200 free in 2:04.46 and the 100 butterfly (1:00.17), Murphy took the 50 free (25.33) and 100 free (55.95) and Kim won the 200 individual medley in state-qualifying time (2:25.48) and the 500 free (5:34.77). The Titans also got wins from Jenelle Freeborn in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.58) and Kelly Erickson in the 100 backstroke (1:06.91).

Jefferson snared a 95-90 win over the Tahoma Bears on Thursday. The Raiders got a pair of wins from Amber Cratsenberg in the 100 free (56.05) and the 500 free (5:34.96). Jefferson also won the 200 medley relay (Janice Huynh, Savannah Coe, Michelle Hogan and Cratsenberg) and the 400 free relay (Cratsenberg, Huynh, Hogan and Coe).

Volleyball

The Federal Way Eagles picked up a non-league win over the Hazen Highlanders Thursday, 25-8, 25-12, 25-19. It was the Eagles’ first win in over a year. Last year, Federal Way finished 0-14 in SPSL play.

The Eagles got seven kills and three aces from Taylor Harris, six kills and six aces from Monica McConnaughey, six kills, three blocks and five aces from Paulina McKenna and 17 assists from Trisha Paulina.

Beamer also picked up a solid non-league win Thursday over Lincoln, 25-14, 25-14, 22-25, 25-20. Ericka Duffy had seven kills, Megan Stumpf tallied nine kills and three blocks and Alex Schultz had 18 assists.

Tennis

The Thomas Jefferson and Decatur boys tennis teams picked up a pair of SPSL wins Friday.

The Raiders beat Auburn Riverside, 4-1, to move to 2-1 on the season. Joe Lee and Kyle Creek got singles’ wins and the doubles’ teams of Branden Muraki and Kainoa Rosa and Makoa Rosa and Brandyn Gomez also won.

Decatur also picked up a 4-1 win over Spanaway Lake. The Gators’ wins came from Ryland Goldstein in singles, and CJ Andrus and Alex Eddy, Matt Crahan and Ryan Westerdahl and Darrel Belvin and Nelson Adtkinson in doubles.

Golf

The Todd Beamer boys had an impressive 82-59 victory over the Federal Way Eagles Thursday at Sumner Meadows Golf Course. The Titans had four players shoot 40 or under, led by Michael Manolides’ 36. Broc Johnson, the runner-up at last spring’s Class 4A state championships, fired a 38.

The Jefferson girls got a big win over Auburn Riverside Thursday, 70-63. Senior Jayme Carbon earned medalist honors. The Federal Way and Decatur girls also won Thursday. The Eagles beat Beamer, 69-30, and the Gators downed Curtis, 79-31. Kendra Nelson shot a 45 at Northshore Golf Course for the Eagles and Stacey Blunt fired a 39 for the Gators at Meadow Park.
