Basketball round-up: Decatur boys and girls sneak by Beamer

The No. 5-ranked Decatur boys used a big third quarter to pull away from the Todd Beamer Titans Tuesday night at Decatur, 58-50.

The Gators (6-1 in the SPSL North, 9-1 overall) led by one at halftime, 29-28, but outscored the Titans (4-4, 5-7) 15-9 in the third quarter and held on in the final eight minutes to pick up the victory.

Decatur was led by the 16 points of sophomore Jerron Smith and 15 from senior guard Marcus Tibbs. Junior Jordan McCloud chipped in 10.

Beamer got double-digit points from four players. Napa Mefi and Chase Hildebrandt both tallied 13 points each, Kevin Davis finished with 12 and Vlad Aflciuc had 10 for the Titans.

Beamer takes on Emerald Ridge Thursday night and Decatur plays Spanaway Lake.

Federal Way 81, at Kent-Meridian 47

The second-ranked Eagles ran all over the Kent-Meridian Royals Tuesday night. Federal Way (7-1, 10-1) had nine players score at least three points, led by the 20 of senior Andre Barrington. Point guard Michael Hale finished with 19 points.

The Eagles outscored Kent-Meridian (1-6, 1-8), 29-13 during the third quarter.

Federal Way starts the second half of their SPSL North schedule Thursday night by traveling to Auburn Riverside.

Kentridge 63, at Jefferson 54

The sixth-ranked Chargers outscored Jefferson 20-12 in the third quarter to break a 25-25 halftime tie Tuesday night at TJ. The loss was TJ’s fifth in a row since starting the season 4-1.

The Raiders (3-5, 4-6) were led by the 13 points of Eric Radford. Senior Xavyr Moss chipped in 12 and Cramer Doughty tallied 11 points for Jefferson.

The Raiders travel to Auburn Thursday night to take on the Trojans and host Kent-Meridian Saturday.

Girls basketball

Decatur 50, at Beamer 38

The Gators (4-3, 4-6) moved above .500 in the SPSL South with a solid win over Beamer Tuesday night. The two teams’ were tied at 9-9 after the first quarter, but Decatur outscored the Titans, 18-8, in the second quarter to take a 27-17 lead at the half.

The Gators were led by the 11 points of Tenea Holcomb and 10 from Jade Woodke. Beamer (1-6, 1-9) got eight points from both Shyla Akins and Lillian Hampton.

Decatur hosts Spanaway Lake Thursday and Beamer travels to Emerald Ridge.

Federal Way 68, Kent-Meridian 39

The Eagles remained in third place in the SPSL North with a 29-point win over Kent-Meridian Tuesday. Federal Way (6-2, 9-3) plays a huge game Thursday night when they host the defending Class 3A champion Auburn Riverside Ravens (7-1, 9-3). The Ravens beat the Eagles earlier in the season, 77-60.

Against Kent-Meridian, Federal Way was led by the 14 points of senior Jacqie Evenson.

Jefferson 46, at Kentridge 36

The Raiders (5-3, 8-3) snapped a two-game losing streak Tuesday with a win over Kentridge. Jefferson got 14 points from Unique Taufa’asau, 12 from Stacy Albrecht and 11 from Hannah Kiyohara.

The Raiders host Auburn Thursday and travel to Kent-Meridian Saturday night.
