Catchers
Adam Bolf, Beamer
The senior was the Titans’ leading hitter during the SPSL season, despite playing the rugged position of catcher. Bolf finished the league season hitting .452 with 14 runs, 10 RBIs and six doubles. The average was sixth in the SPSL South and he struck out only four times in 42 at bats. Bolf was also the first-team, All-SPSL South Division catcher.
Steven Sonnenfeld, Jefferson
The junior had a monster year for the Raiders. Sonnenfeld finished with a .457 batting average and led TJ with 21 hits, 17 RBIs, four home runs and 15 runs scored. He was a second-team, All-SPSL North selection in a league filled with solid catchers.
Infield
Nick Tanielu, Federal Way
The Washington State University-bound senior finished a stellar four-year career at Federal Way High School. Tanielu will go down as one of the better players in the rich baseball history at the school. He was a starter during all four of his seasons and also started three years at quarterback on the Eagle football team.
Tanielu finished fifth in the SPSL South in hitting with a .488 batting average. He also led the league in RBIs with 25 in just 16 games, stole a league-leading 11 bases, slugged .930 and finished with 40 total bases. Tanielu also tallied 15 runs, had five doubles, one triple and four home runs. His best offensive game came against the Curtis Vikings during an 8-4 win. Tanielu finished 4 for 4 with two home runs, four RBIs and a double. He was also 4 for 4 with three RBIs during an 11-10, state-clinching win over Auburn Riverside on May 14.
Tanielu also led the SPSL South with three saves on the mound in 14 2/3 innings of work during the regular season. He was 2-0, struck out 17 and had a 1.43 earned-run average.
Chris Shimer, Federal Way
The Eagle sophomore was a defensive wizard in the middle infield for Federal Way. Shimer was also a solid hitter in the Eagles’ potent offensive lineup. He finished third in the SPSL South in doubles with six, struck out only once during the regular season in 36 at bats and was also hit by a pitch four times. Shimer finished with a .389 average and also scored 11 runs, drove in nine and was a second-team, All-SPSL South selection.
Mac Gridley, Beamer
The Titan senior had a solid final year at Beamer. The 6-foot-4 Gridley finished with a .288 batting average, scored 11 runs, had a pair of home runs and finished with eight RBIs. He also stole three bases.
Brandon Zimmerman, Decatur
The freshman earned the respect of his teammates during his first season at Decatur. The second baseman hit .321 with a double, 10 RBIs and six stolen bases and was voted the most valuable player of the Gators by the players.
Outfield
Darrien Moran, Federal Way
The junior had a very impressive all-around season for the Eagles. Moran finished second on the team with a .442 batting average and led the team by scoring 18 runs. Moran had 10 RBIs, six doubles and stole five bases. Moran also led the SPSL South with 18 walks.
Moran was impressive on the mound for the Eagles. The left-hander finished a perfect 4-0 during the SPSL season with a 2.08 earned-run average. He struck out 35 in 30 1/3 innings of work and walked only nine.
Derek Bontempo, Decatur
The sophomore led the Gators with a .467 average and had two home runs, two doubles, seven RBIs and slugged .733. He was a second-team, All-SPSL 3A selection.
Jarred Prather, Beamer
The Beamer sophomore had a solid season for the Titans. Prather finished with a .341 batting average and scored 11 runs. He had one home run, two doubles, six RBIs and also stole two bases during the 15 games he played during the SPSL regular season. Prather was a second-team, All-SPSL South selection.
K.W. Williams, Jefferson
Williams is the rare three-sport standout and capped off his junior year by hitting .396 for the Raiders. Williams was also TJ’s starting quarterback in the fall and was a 189-pound state finalist in wrestling during the winter season.
Williams led the Raiders with 17 RBIs and had two home runs, a triple and scored seven runs.
Utility
Brett Oyer, Beamer
The junior was a first-team, All-SPSL South selection after hitting .348 with 11 runs, five RBIs, one triple and four stolen bases for the Titans. Oyer was 2-0 with a 1.62 earned-run average and 22 strikeouts on the mound.
Designated hitter
Oakley Murphy, Jefferson
Murphy led the Raiders with a .462 batting average during the season. He had nine RBIs, nine runs and one home run.
Pitchers
Austin Weber, Federal Way
Weber finished 3-2 and led the Eagles with 36 innings. He had a 4.28 earned-run average, struck out 34 and was a first-team, All-SPSL South selection. He also hit .269 with 17 RBIs, four doubles, one home run and six stolen bases at the plate.
Matt Bower, Beamer
The junior ended up with a 4-4 record and a 3.90 earned-run average. He struck out 46 in 37 2/3 innings for the Titans. Bower was a second-team, All-SPSL South selection.
Romero Ponce, Decatur
The senior finished 3-1 with an impressive 1.54 earned-run average for the Gators. Ponce was a second-team, All-SPSL 3A selection.
