Last week Federal Way Mirror editor Carrie Rodriguez disclosed that the city’s highest paid employee — Mayor Jim Ferrell’s Chief of Staff Brian Wilson — has been seeking to supplement his city salary of $147,888 with an additional $82,524 in retirement income.
As a member of the pro-committee for marijuana-related businesses, I am saddened the voters chose to stay home or chose fear over what I consider good judgement.
Q: Mr. Federal Way, I was at the mall shopping with my mom when all of a sudden these people burst through the door chanting something about wanting $15 an hour. It was so disruptive and loud that my little boy started crying. The mall is a private business and they have no right to do that.
People, shame on you. People fought and were imprisoned fighting for the right to vote and you can’t sit down at your kitchen table and fill out a ballot?
Sometimes, when people see me, they run in the opposite direction. I can hear their thoughts saying: “Oh no, it’s that chatty Magruder woman!”
Apathy was the big winner in last week’s election as only 31 percent of Federal Way’s 42,778 registered voters bothered to fill out their ballots.
As a doctor of optometry, I help care for the eye health of hundreds of Puget Sound-area residents each year. With more than 9 percent of Americans having been diagnosed with diabetes and millions more still undiagnosed, many of the patients who come to our office are concerned with the potential complications of this disease. Since November is Diabetic Eye Disease Month, it’s a good time to consider the importance of regular dilated eye exams in the prevention of vision loss.
I was driving to Tacoma via Norpoint hill and the Tide Flats when I witnessed a nightmarish scene.

On Oct. 19 at the Puget Sound Educational Center in Renton, the fourth of seven legislative listening meetings was held. The meeting was led by Sen. Bruce Dammeier, R-Puyallup, and Sen. Attending from Federal Way Public Schools was Superintendent Tammy Campbell, school board President Geoffrey McAnalloy, board vice president Claire Wilson, board member-to-be Liz Drake and Sally McLean, assistant superintendent of business services.
Dear Mr. Mayor and members of the Federal Way City Council, I’ve been following some of the discussion about the Performing Arts and Event Center and feel there definitely needs to be a limit on the financial support the city provides. We don’t need further projects that are not self-supporting.

I again attempt to provide some balance to Amy Johnson’s assumption that teens and single adults will have sex outside of marriage and that it’s all just a wonderful thing (“12 tips to stay sexually savvy during Seahawks season”).
We’re finishing up our three part series on “Sexual savvy during Seahawks season.” Part one focused on how to keep your offense strong. Part two reminded you how to put up a good defense. Part three shows you how to kick it up a notch with special teams.
Q: Mr Federal Way, this question is in reference to the new park (Town Square Park) that is right next to the Federal Way Transit Center bus stop. This park was just barely created and finished, and then the city turns right around and demolishes it and destroys it? Why did they do this? I feel like I should be asking the city for a refund for the taxes I pay.
The biggest race in the state this year is right here in Federal Way between Democratic incumbent legislator Carol Gregory and Republican challenger Teri Hickel.
“The community we represent has just been made the victim of legal extortion.”
